There are reports of negligence coming out.
Apparently Cherepanov suffered from chronic ischemia, a medical condition in which not enough blood gets to the heart or other organs. There was no ambulance on duty and when it finally did arrive it did not even have a defibrillator

I wasn't blaming the refs for the loss. I just mentioned that we got screwed in OT...which we did. The Flames lost those first two games because of their crappy defensive coverage, particularly against the Sedins. And yea, Kipper has been brutal so far this year, but his defencemen aren't helping him at all and the forwards aren't back-checking. Same goes for those back-to-back losses against the Oil on the weekend. The Flames get a lead and then they sit back, stop skating, and allow the opposition to get right back into it. They have no killer instinct right now and it's painful to watch. I admit I'm embarrassed to be a Flames fan right now. I have faith that they'll eventually get their shit together and find their game, but they've started out every season since the lockout in the same fashion and the fans and media in this city are running out of patience.

They're probably dogging it because they hate Keenan. Of course, the other part of it is that they just don't have very many great players.

Well this is a little ridiculous... a 2nd NHL team in Toronto before Winnipeg or Quebec get a franchise back!? Or before even giving Hamilton a shot? Just plain dumb.
Funny thing is, if there is an expansion team in Toronto, they would probably win a Stanley Cup before the Leafs win another!!

It appears some National Hockey League officials think Toronto is big enough to have two teams.

According to The Globe and Mail, NHL governors have had informal talks about putting a second team in Toronto.

''Why shouldn't we put another team in the best and biggest market in the world?'' one governor told the newspaper anonymously, adding one scenario involves Research in Motion CEO Jim Balsillie being awarded an expansion franchise after coming to the aid of the financially-strapped Nashville Predators.

''I've heard bits and pieces of this scenario, although not in that kind of detail,'' Calgary Flames co-owner Harley Hotchkiss told The Globe and Mail. ''Our priority is to have the existing franchises solid.''

President of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, Richard Peddie told the newspaper his organization would listen to any expansion suggestion and downplayed any negative effect it could have on the Maple Leafs.

''When and if the league brings expansion to the table, we'll listen and decide what is best for hockey,'' Peddie told The Globe and Mail. ''The Maple Leafs would not be hurt one bit. In fact, it would help them. They could make all kinds of money renting the Air Canada Centre to the other team.''

Actually that's the best idea I've heard in a long time. As much as I'd love Winnipeg, Quebec, or the Hammer to have NHL teams, there's no denying that from a business perspective a 2nd Toronto team would easily be the best option. Hell to appease the Leafs, have the new team pay rent to the Leafs and play out of the ACC rather than spend several hundred million on a new building.

I don't think the city of Toronto needs another hockey team and it would be better to relocate the Preds to Winnipeg or Hamilton. I don't think another team in the GTA would survive very long because I imagine Bettman would make any new owner pay a hell of a financial price to move out of the US (him and his "hockey first in US" mentality :roll: ) and the Leafs would charge way too much to rent out the ACC. IMO Nashville, Phoenix or Columbus needs to be relocated back in Canada where they can thrive financially.

Well can any of you provide justification for why this idea is so 'idiotic' or do you just have a hate on for Toronto?

From a business perspective it is a no-brainer. Southern Ontario is easily the largest hockey market on earth and with only one team it is grossly underserved. Winnipeg's building is quite small by NHL standards, and it's highly questionable as to whether the corporate base there is large enough to buy up all the high priced boxes and club seating. Hamilton would certainly address the need for another southern Ontario team, but in additonal to having to appease MLSE, a perspective Hamilton owner would also have to appease the Sabres, as they get a decent percentage of their fans from this side of the border. Corporate support could be an issue there as well, plus there's the expense of renovating Copps or building a few facility.
