I hope that Sundin doesn't sign in Vancouver. What a disgrace that he's taking so long with his decision on whether or not to play again. Truly deplorable.

I'm pretty disappointed with what has transpired today, seemingly replacing Jaromir Jagr with Markus Naslund. Here's hoping Naslund will be rejuvinated playing with a top playmaker in Scott Gomez (or perhaps he'll play with Dubinsky or Drury, i dunno). Jagr obviously didn't have his best regular season last year, but he was still the most dangerous Ranger, and he again was dominant in the playoffs. Two years ago, Jagr was leading the league in scoring when the Rangers were eliminated in round 2, and again last year he was leading the playoffs in scoring through 2 rounds.

I do like the Zherdev trade though, i've always been a fan of his, and i think he's worth the risk. It's tough seeing Fedor Tyutin go the other way though, he's one of my favorite defensemen. He hasn't displayed the offensive flash he did in junior yet (he was considered the Rangers #1 prospect & future franchise defensemen - but he's quickly developed into a dependable, solid blueliner who is capable of logging big minutes. He has a heavy shot, and best of all, the guy can hit. IMO he's one of the best hipcheckers in the NHL. As for Christian Backman, good riddance. The Rangers still have a solid group of young defensemen though, led by Marc Staal, Bobby Sanguitti, and Dan Girardi.

How is it deplorable? He's a free agent and can do whatever the hell he wants. It's certainly far less worse than Scott Niedermayer waiting until halfway through last season to tell the Ducks he was coming back, while he was in the middle of a 4-year contract.

I didn't really mean it as I was surprised that he took the offer. I am more in shock the effect this new Russian league could have on the NHL............

Well, those players who don't mind having to move everywhere in armoured limousines surrounded by bodyguards toting AK-74s will enjoy the new Russia. I think other players might decide to stay home.

Seriously, living conditions in Russia should give anyone pause. I don't think the cream of the NHL are going to be siphoned off to the former USSR.

I don't know...........money makes people move to Fort McMurray...............Russia has got to be better than that...... :lol: :lol: :lol:

And speaking of living conditions, did anyone hear Fletcher's comments about the $20 million dollar deal from Vancouver. He basically stated that Toronto could not match that price but "Mats would have to consider the difference of living in Toronto to living in Vancouver, which was worth a couple million right there"..........

Of course he can do what he wants but pretty every other player (free agent) seems to be able to make up his mind in respectable time. What Scotty did was deplorable also. What, do two wrongs make a right these days?

I'm going to miss Jagr, he was a pleasure to watch throughout his career, one of the most gifted & most dominant players of his generation. Having the chance to watch him game in & game out, especially during the 2005-06 season (in which he broke virtually every important Ranger offensive record), was a treat.

Hopefully things go well for him in Europe, and here's hoping he plays in the '10 Olympics games in Vancouver!

Not at all. I agree that what Scotty did wasn't right (he was under contract), but I don't see any problem with what Mats is doing. It may be annoying for the teams that want to sign him, but if they don't like it they should just forget about him and move on.
