Graham Wrote:Great Waiting List Wrote:Im wondering why the Hip are going with the soft cover albums now. TATHH, WC, and now WATS. Is it more eco friendly? If so why not go in the way of Live Between Us, using all cardboard?
I like'em. I'm not sure why. But those jewel cases to me seem cheap and...idunno there's no..."feeling"..there. The soft covers make me feel like I have a miniature vinyl.
It is ecofriendly...WC is printed on recycled paper and, if you notice, the plastic under the WATS disc says that it is made from 100% recycled materials.
Yeah I agree they do seem better. I'm liking the fact that WATS is now up on my CD rack with the whole of the Hip Discography now. WATS is on repeat and will be for the rest of the night till the morning moon.

Great album so far, with the first listen-through on my good headphones. Too tired to stay up longer, but I'm looking forward to sitting in traffic tomorrow morning

I just can't wait for the CD to come in the mail. I've purchased The Depression Suite off iTunes.
Personally, I think the first movement is the best. I liked it the moment I heard it on the Bathouse video on thehip.com. The middle movement is good, too. The third one might have to grow on me.
But I'm loving, "Are you goin' through somethin'? Well I am too."

i was just flipping through the CD booklet and readin through the lyrics. i noticed that the depression suite really is a "trio" as mentioned in that first review of the album way back when it was announced. the first movement is called "The Rock". the second one is called "NewOrleansWorld" and the third is called "Dont you want to see how it ends?"
personally my favorite is the last one. im sure we all have a different fav. neat concept though. they really did squeeze three songs into one.
and also, i am not a huge fan of "Frozen in my tracks" but i just read the lyrics for it. and theyre actually really good, the topic has been written about by squillions of bands, but never quite said like this. i think i can appreciate the song a whole lot more now that i understand the lyrics lol. check em out when you get the chance.

I think my problem with Frozen is the "WOOAH OH" that sounds kinda a little too mashed together with different voices/tones. Just kinda sets me off and I go, "huh?"

Those background vocals always remind me of The Hold Steady. And I love that band, so the "wooah woahs" don't bother me at all.

I noticed that they separated the Lyrics from the Music in the liner notes this time:
Music by The Tragically Hip
Lyrics by Gord Downie

Hip trivia. When's the last time they did that in the liner notes?

Was it their self-titled E.P.? That's the only time I can remember them doing it, because I remember seeing that Sinclair had written the lyrics for a song or two. They also listed who wrote each song. Must've been before they made their collective agreement to share the songwriting credits.
