I'm going to watch to see The Hip's performance.

Yes, the Hip have won, but that's because they're still a relatively popular band in Canada and have the "Canadian Institution" status. I'm not saying all Juno nominees and winners suck, just most of them. Well, most of them might not "suck", but I can think of plenty other acts that should be nominated instead.
It's a popularity contest and not a real appreciation of music.
Don't even get me started on the hosts. Nelly Furtado, at least she's a musician, but last year with Pamela Anderson. Horrors.

I don't. I'm a music fan but I never watch music awards shows. I'm a fan of film too and I can't remember the last time I watched the Academy Awards. I find awards shows nauseatingly boring and superficial. The scripted dialogue, the tearful winners thanking God and the painfully choreographed musical numbers are more than I can bear. If something interesting does happen - and occasionally it does - it will make an appearance on YouTube the next day, so why waste an evening on that tripe?
I was momentarilly tempted to watch the Junos when I heard that the Hip would be performing but then I heard that Nelly Furtado was hosting. No. I can't do that. I suppose she's an improvement over Pamela Anderson but not enough of an improvement for me. I hope someone puts the Hip's moments on YouTube.
If not, well, I guess I'll have to pick up the shattered pieces of my life and move on.
I agree i really don't like ANY award show. I find them just dumb and boring i dunno. I'd like to watch untill the hip perform though and then stop watching after that. Any way of knowing what time they will be performing?

I'm throwing all my money into the hat in favor of "Yer Not The Ocean".

Well, I don't know if I'd go that far. When describing Furtado, I'd use the word 'musician' very loosely. She's in the music business, that how I'd describe her.

Have to agree...it's the current single...I think it's representative of that certain something known as "the Hip's sound"...and it's got a message... Gord can remind us to support "Waterkeepers", etc. etc.

That's the only reason why that's what I think it will be :thumb: :thumb: .

this is where i'd used to joke that maybe they'd play Fiddlers Green

Ya, I agree that it is most likely going to be Yer Not the Ocean. Great publicity for the new single (not that they need it

)

Anyone hear anything about the band playing a club gig as part of Junofest? There's nothing scheduled but I know they've played surprise gigs before...

Oh my god! Maybe they
will play Fiddler's Green!

Not that I'll watch (so, really, who am I to have an opinion?) but I don't see why you'd have a musician host a music awards show. That's what comedians are for. They can tell jokes, keep it moving along and they have no professional stake in the evening. Isn't Furtado nominated or something? How awkward would that be?
