john cage Wrote:Here's a comparison of other NYE shows in Chicago:

Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings @ Park West - $30
Poi Dog Pondering @ The Vic - $40
Umphrey's McGee @ The Aragon - $62.50 (12/30 is $30)
The Raconteurs @ The Riv - $79 (12/30 is $36.50)

Wow, the Hip are charging more than the Raconteurs? Interesting. There must be something extra special about the Hip's gig that they're not telling us. Chris mentioned something earlier in this thread about Los Lobos playing with them. I did some digging and found out that Los Lobos will definitely be in Chicago that weekend playing on Dec. 30th at the Aragon Ballroom. Knowing the Hip's relationship with them (in particular, Steve Berlin), I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Los Lobos makes an appearance at the House of Blues as a surprise guest of the Hip. That's gotta be the reason for the $145 ticket price.

Then again, maybe I'm totally wrong and the price just includes some food and champagne along with the show. Perhaps MAv can provide us with more details??

Ticketmaster is showing Matisyahu as the opening act. I'm not sure that helps me justify the price much but I'm in anyway

Ummm.... "a popular American Jewish reggae artist" ???

That's an odd pairing, but could be an interesting evening. Matisyahu's stuff is an odd mix in itself actually. Saw him at Coachella this year, and the first reaction was, "Well I don't think I've seen a Jewish rapper before... oh yeah, the Beastie Boys. Duh." He was on the mainstage prior to Sleater-Kinney and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs...

hmmm...

The Hip + Yeah Yeah Yeahs

now that would be something to see

Hip + Eagles Of Deaht Metal would be sweet...i think they'll be available too

before this thread goes off track...

Gee, I hear Chicago is a wonderful town. Must be a lot of fun on a New Years eve... I hear the Hip are playing with Matisyahu.

Okay, all better now. Tongue

Matisyahu is amazing

I just saw him at a fundraiser

Although it might be the other way around in the states! He is much bigger than the hip in the states!

Either way it will be an amazing show

Don't tease me like that.

I discovered Matisyahu at the Gorge...brought an AMAZING vibe to 20000 cold wet hungry concert goers.....I really dug it and their newer CD Youth is quite good. I would think they're a bigger draw in the States than the Hip though...

I have 2 tix for the Chicago show, and now I cant go. Have not gotten them in the mail yet. Anyone want them? I only want what I paid, and I will ship thme Expresspost for free. I do sell things on Ebay, but I thought I would try here first.

Going to this show is my only consolation for not getting to see the Hip with the Who. I'm so glad I finally took a break from school and studying my brains out to find out about this show. This will be a great way to celebrate surviving anatomy & physiology. I can't wait! Big Grin

I would have loved to see THE WHO, but not after finding out Pete Townsend is a pedofile type loser.
