Stephen Dame Wrote:- "The Glove Hand." Gord spoke to us earlier about how he played hockey in the morning... his reflexes came in handy. During the show, the guy beside me asked "does Gord smoke?" I said "Yeah, think so." So right in the middle of a song, this guy hurls a cigarette in Gord's direction. Downie pulls the most incredible Patrick Roy glove save of all time and snatches the cigarette out of mid air between his fingers. Our entire section gave out a cry of "OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" like you hear at hockey games... or rap battles on TV (Snap! You got schooled!) and Gord looked right at him, then at me, with a look of "damn right. I caught it with my bare friggin' hands."

Stephen you are going to love this, I finally took a look at my pictures from the other night. Check out the Picture! The Glove hand in fine form!

Congrats to Stephen, Chris & Lance on their once-in-a-blue-moon Hip experience. Once you get the taste a couple times, everything else seems so.....normal, regardless of how big the everything else may really be.

Kudos to MAv for treating these Hipbasers to a night they won't soon forget. And a big thanks to MAv from me personally for continuing these extraordinary experiences the prior management team so generously afforded some of us in the past.

The more I think about it, Gord is like a Grandfather Clock. He's tall, dependable and gives information more in quiet glances and expression than in speech. But when he's on stage, when the clock strikes 12, bong... he comes to life and everybody knows it.

Okay, so he's more like an exploding Grandfather clock.

You've really been moved by this encounter, haven't you???

I love how we all have our own personal story about this band, our own moment of connectivity. Some tales are cooler than others...but the one thing that can't be quantified and ranked is that these stories are OUR'S and only OUR'S...No matter how eloquently you describe it, no matter what piece of furniture you use as symbolism, the story just can't be done justice simply through words...It then nestles its way into a special place in your memory to draw on forever. Good on ya Dame!!!

I know that I was. And standing next to Stephen it certainly felt like he was.

I know that they're just five guys in a rock and roll band, but it was really great to talk with them the way that we did. I've talked with each of the guys on different occasions after shows, etc, but those were just passing moments with a dozen or more other fans. And in those instances, I've always felt that I'm just another fan.

On Wednesday however, it wasn't like that. At all. I mentioned it in my post on hipfans.com, but they knew who we were, and why we were there. And they were appreciative of what we do, and encouraged us to keep it up. Even if it was just good coaching by MAv or EggPlant (which I really doubt) they sold me on it.

Or maybe it was just Dame's infectious energy?

Or Lance's freakish resemblance of my brother-in-law? (photos proof will be posted after Christmas)

Whatever it was, I'm glad I experienced it. And that I/we have such a great group of other fans to share it with.

Big Grin
Man, great story. I loved the show, and really liked the excerpt from "Christmas Time in Toronto' at the end of ABAC. Johnny cash cover was the highlight for me though. Peace

Man, I'd step over my own mother to hear the Johnny Cash cover. The Hip aren't known for doing too many cover songs, let alone playing them acoustically, but every once in a while they'll pull one out of the hat and it's always bang-on. (ie..Black Day in July)

Who else thinks it would be a great idea to release their entire set on disc as a limited edition live EP and donate all the proceeds to charity? Even better would be the band putting out a full double-live acoustic concert on CD a-la Pearl Jam's Benaroya Hall album. Hey, it's Christmas. A guy can dream, can't he?
