Have the Hip ever played a show with Nickelback? I wonder what the boys's thoughts on those slimy little bastards are

I pret sure they've not played a gig with them but as that 1 early interview with them from back in I think it was the early 90's,it'z 1 of the more famous interviewz, it'z all them together, think it right after a gig in the Statez somewhere, where their jokin bout the Hawk, now that I've rambled and colored that landscape enough you should know what interview I speak of, anywho when I 1st seen that and what they were saying about not wishing any ill-will on their fellow musicianz and he said something about wheelchairz or them not being crippled, I guess that really said alot about this band to me, and one of the big reasonz why their still together after all these long yearz. and this hating nickelback thing, I just don't get Confusedcratch:I'm no fanboy of their music by no stretch of the imagination but I don't hate them, what would be the point? If their not your cup 0 tea, whatever but to hate them, what did they ever do to anyone on this board?I actually like Leader of Men. But Thatz how the ball gettz rolling when it comez to stuff like that I guess, 1 person sayz it, then 4 people are hatin and so on and so forth,Thatz Hitler mentality at work. just imagin if you could flip that over and speak in positive-ness? Ok I'll jump of my Toad stool now........

I'll agree with ya and help ya eat that toadstool, Summiteer. Speaking of which, apparently Leader Of Men (my fave too) was written by Kroeger when he was on shrooms. I noticed the hate going on here. I'm not a fan but they are pretty good, I mean, they're selling records, so people have to like them. A bunch of bands have copied them too. I've noticed people on this board will praise other musicians because they worked with the Hip, the Hip praised them or whatever, when I personally think the musicians suck, Joel Plaskett Emergency and The Trews and Sam Roberts and such. I suppose if Nickelback toured with the Hip and Kroeger and Downie were really good friends these people who now listen to JPE and Trews and Roberts would be listening to Nickleback, too. What fools.

Yikes, not me. Bad music is bad music no matter how you slice it. Gord and Chad could be brothers and I'd still hate Nickelback with the same intensity. Hell, I even hated them BEFORE they were famous. Chad's vapid lyrics are so banal and juvenile it's almost vomit-inducing, and their music is completely devoid of any kind of originality or integrity whatsoever. Whenever one of their songs comes on the radio, I feel dumber for having listented to it. Lumping Sam Roberts and Joel Plaskett in with the watered-down paint-by-numbers crappiness of Nickelback is wrong on so many levels I don't even know where to begin. Musically & artistically those guys are at a level that Mr. Kroeger will never ever get to. He may sell a gazillion albums, but so does Hillary Duff and Jessica Simpson. Being #1 on the charts doesn't necessarily mean you're any good. Nickelback and their little army of clone bands are wearing out their welcome very quickly, and I guarantee you 5 years down the road, nobody will even remember them.

And that's all I have to say about that.

Quote:id assume OLP. they usually play with the hip at these kinds of shows.

It is a distinct possibility the Hip will (or have) invited OLP. I heard on The Edge The Hip and OLP are golfing together at their annual golf tournament at the end of the month. If I am not mistaken, they are also doing a performance together at the end of the day.

Maybe a preview of things to come in Kingston?

I smell an official DVD coming from this... Being at home, outdoors, proceeds from sales could go to the charities...

When did the Trews play with the Hip? Or when did the Hip ever mention them?

- lord brazle - 08-13-2004

Neither. But everybody else is putting them in the same boat cuz they played a few Hip songs when they were starting out. I think it's just a marketing ploy and people fall victim to marketing ploys. Just look how many times The Hip are mentioned alongside The Trews... It's weird..

HOUSE OF ILL FAME - The Trews
No more hip then usual

"At the risk of being burned at the stake as a heretic, it’s probably time this is said: Canada needs a new Tragically Hip.

Not another Hip.

Not the mature Hip we have now, the one that seems more about something to dine on by way of esoteric ideas, but rather the young, New Orleans Is Sinking, campus-friendly Hip that was all about selling cold suds and the subsequent loss of thought."

Trews North strong and free
By MIKE BELL Calgary Sun

"Hear The Trews and you hear Canada.

Not the actual landscape, as with an act such as The Rheostatics, more the Cancon rock sounds that have crowded the airwaves and clubs for the past two decades or so: A little Big Sugar, a lotta Tragically Hip, some 54*40, The Watchmen, The Odds, etc."

Trews unzipped
By MIKE ROSS Edmonton Sun

"There is a certain hunger to the music of the Trews, who have been dubbed, for lack of anything better, as the "next Tragically Hip.""

Trews: An Un-Maritime Sound
by: LINDSAY LEAMEN, Niagara News

"The Trews, formerly Trouser, find inspiration from successful bands such as the Beatles, Tragically Hip, and the Rolling Stones."

The Trews score a No. hit after months of touring
Canadian Press

"The Trews - two brothers, a cousin and a best friend - were high schoolers eight long years ago when they started banging out basement riffs reminiscent of early Tragically Hip with some AC/DC influence."

TREWS vs THE HIP

I actually looked into The Trews when they first came out (like I do with all other bands) and I personally find they suck but, cuz I'm such a nice guy and all, I'll add here that people are different and have different musical tastes. I just feel that there are some people out there who fall victim to buying shit cuz a certain celebrity is on the commercial or whatever. It happens. You can't say it doesn't.
