I assumed it. Why? I think everyone assumes that certain things just come from the US and then are amazed when they find out they are not. With Canada and the US, Canada always seems to be the underdog, so when we feel we've got something great, we let everyone know that it's Canadian, not American!
I was under the impression that a lot of Canadian Artists have been quite succesful in the US over the past decade.
Alanis, Celine Dion, Bryan Adams, Avril Lavigne, Nelly Furtado, Nickleback, OLP, Barenaked Ladies, Shania Twain, Sarah McLaughlin, to name a few.
I think a lot of Americans recognize this fact as they also recognize a lot of the best comedic/acting talent over the past 25 years has come out of Canada.
If they don't already know that, then chances are they don't care. I don't think it is really a fan's duty to advertise a band's nationality for them, especially when the band tends to distance themselves from such behaviour.

The hip and Canada,
no no no, the hip have never linked themselves to the flag...they have never encouraged that kind of behaviour, never once.....that would be ridiculous....in fact I am almost positive they tell people not to bring canadian flags to their shows....they want to move away from being linked to nationalism and all that jazz...
oh.....
oh wait a second.....
(*Puts On Hip Hockey Jersy*)
thats weird.....I wonder who made this.....

You read my mind...I always think of those jerseys whenever this topic comes up...well, that and the Salt Lake City party for Canadian Olympians, the numerous "Happy Stupid Day" concerts and the recent use of Can-con images in videos (eg. Don Cherry, TPB)...come to think of it, the guys haven't exactly run screaming from the whole "Canada's band" thing...
As for the flags...long as they aren't bothering others, I say wave 'em if you got 'em...I support anything that brings Canadians together; lord knows the ties that unilaterally bind in this country are few and far between... :thumb:
