Well, here's one die-hard Leaf fan who's more than a little concerned about all the pro-Leaf prognostications I've been reading in the media here and south of the 49th...
People seem to forget that this is a BETTER Ottawa team than the one that came within a single goal of making it to the finals last year (vs. Anaheim, which they very likely would have won), through the additions of Bondra and DeVries, the subtraction of Rachunek and the maturation of Spezza, Havlat, Hossa etc...
The regular season (particularly last Saturday's 6-0 whitewash) means absolutely nothing right now - ask any Sens fan about that one - and I think way too much is being made of series that ended over 23 months ago and beyond...
Any "psychological" edge the Leafs may have due to past successes will be shattered with a single Sens win at the ACC...
I have a good friend who's a Sens fan and I've gone as far as to guarantee the Sens will win this series...if they do, he buys me the new Hip CD (to listen to as I drown my sorrows, lol)...If the Leafs win, it's on me...
Sens in 6...
Then again, I was one who predicted the addition of Jagr would get the Rangers into the playoffs, so take that for what you will...
Also, I like the Wings (in 5), Blues (in 6), Canucks (sorry sherpahigh, too many key Flames injuries; in 6) and Avs (in 7) in the West and Tampa (in 5), Montreal (in 6), and New Jersey (in 6) in the East...
Looking forward to tonight!

I never imagined so many people shared my distaste for Pierre McGuire. I say we trade him to the US before the next trade deadline for the Buffalo Sabres announcers who calls hockey like soccer - "GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLL!"
I'm itchin' to start the playoff action - Montreal and Boston in less than an hour, baby!! It's too bad I gotta work from midnight to eight or I'd be able to watch game 1 of Nucks & Flames.
MIKES - always good to hear a dissenting opinion about the Leafs from their own fanbase. For some reason Leafs fans seem to have rabid naivety about their teams' chances...for instance, Ottawa's TEAM 1200 radio is flush with Ottawa fans (or maybe they're covert Leafs fans sowing the seeds of doubt, who knows) expressing concern over our team's negatives. I think it stems from the expectation that the Senators were always expected to do better than the Leafs anyway. I mean, Toronto fans won't complain about any of their negative aspects after finishing in the top four seeds, because hey, why complain about the finger food at a party you didn't even expect to be invited to? The Leafs have the 2nd longest Cup drought in hockey (after the atrocious Craphawks) and everybody has just gotten used to the idea that the Leafs will fail in the post season. When the finally finally do well in the regular season (finishing ahead of Ottawa by a point), everybody's just surprised after all thsi tiem with how well the team is doing and they are blind to their faults. At least with Ottawa, they have been getting better every year and so people have more hope, which in turn leads to more honest second looks at the team and its weaknesses.
As a hockey fan, you never hope a player gets injured, especially one as amazing as Belfour - I can't stand the Loafs but you gotta respect Eddie for his great career - I would love to see him go out with a back spasm and then everybody can see that, despite the massive talent base the Loafs have accumulated, they are nothing without their goaltender because the team constantly abandons their back end. I don't know if it's arrogance or whatever, but the team constantly needs Belfour to bail them out in a tight spot, and with all Toronto fans crowing about their offensive depth, I think it would be great universal justice to show them the team as a whole is like the Rangers, but with a great goalie behind them they manage to scrape together wins. Now, there are no doubt games where the Leafs click as a team and put up some great efforts as a whole team, but there are far more games where they just let Belfour get peppered with shots and he saves the day all by himself.
Can't wait for game 1!!! And remember people...keep it civil...the last time I started a Cup thread last year (on another board, obviously), it degenrated into a rather nasty affair. People here are much more reasonable and mature, so let's not screw it up with any personal attacks. Not that I am saying YOU guys would, but it happens, you know?
GO SENS!!!

as much as i do agree with your views on pierre mcguire, i do say that your comments seem a little harsh. though i am a leafs fan, i would never wish injury upon another player, especially in the playoffs. i say let the best team win, and if it's not the leafs, oh well, we got beaten by a better team, and not "we woulda won if we had belfour in net"
my 2 cents anyways

Grooveless, if you want a dissenting opinion about the Leafs, just check out any online T.O. paper tomorrow morning should the Sens win tonight...
The Blue and White bandwagon (both fan and media) has a nasty habit of unloading and reloading faster than a rush hour TTC streetcar at this time of year...
As for your second line above, I think most long-suffering true-blue Leaf fans (particularly those of a certain "Cup-less" age who spent their formative years watching the likes of Mirko Frycer, Jiri Crha and Allan Bester :x) don't ever allow themselves to get too high or too low, and can take a step back and analyze things rationally...Most of the Leaf fans I know (aging myself) fit this category....Unfortunately, with a few exceptions, these aren't the types that seem to dominate the various internet discussion boards or phone-in shows...
All that said, should be a dandy series!

Well, tonight Ottawa proved they have the fortitude to beat the Leafs on home ice and thus, the Leafs' home ice advantage has been robbed of them. With 6 potential games remaining, it's three in each team's arena. Still, the Senators have a tough challenge ahead of them - although my team has been amazing at home (recording points in 23 out of the last 24 home games of the season), game 7 is in Toronto and if it comes down to that, the Loafs will be super determined to win it on home ice.
Ah, how great it was to watch the frustration penalties pile up - the last 10 minutes of the game were effortless for the Senators. If there's one thing you can count on the Leafs to do, it's dig themselves a hole when it's most critical that they not. Super SCHWEET goal on that catastrophic blunder by the Eagle - if you're coming 30 feet out of the net to poke-check, don't fall before you reach the puck unless you plan to fall on top of it!

didn't Ottawa come within a game of the Stanley Cup finals last spring? If I remember correctly, the Leafs last accomplished that feat in 92/93 against the Kings.
