What's interesting is that here in the states, where the Hip gets no airplay, I always hear the songs first on my CD player from my just bought copy and am reading along with the lyrics. No mis-heard words that way.

What's interesting is the lyrics printed aren't always right, I never got that.
There is at least 1 mistake in the Phantom Powerr lyrics and in 100th Meridian, in the Fully Completedly foldout album lyrics, the bit where he goes "And I remember every single f-n' thing I know" the lyrics say something like "every single bloody, warm and horrible thing I know".
Did they do that because certain stgores wouldn't carry a CD with "f--k" printed in the lyrics??

also "sick and ashamed and happy" instead of "chronologically phucked up" in Locked.
my friend and I sing the lyrics as printed whenever we hear Locked. It's fun. As is singing the alternate lyrics to Lake Fever and ABAC.

 That's too funny!! Thanks, I needed that! :thumb:
I think you should be "R.U.R. Police Chief" along with the Search and Tool Police chiefs. You and bean and grooveless could start an unholy trinity, a board mafia.

[second time I've revived this thread]
I'm in my car this morning listening to Road Apples. Fight is on. I love Fight. Right down to the last little bits of it ... "C'mon ... I give. C'mon ... I said I give .... C'mon ... I give"
but then I stop ... and I listen closer. Something's always bugged me. There's a "P" sound in there I can't figure out. I've been listening to the Hip for 13 years. What's he saying at the end of Fight?
Then it hits me like a lightning bolt ... "Put 'em up ... I give ... Put 'em up ... I said I give ... Put 'em up ... I give"
I can't believe I missed that for so long. Made my day.

I guess the misheard lyric that comes to mind instantly for me would be from "Lake Fever". I thought the "want to be a thought that's never done" that Paul sings was "want to be a fuck that's never done".

For the longest time, I misheard the line "We get to feel small" in "Gift Shop". I always thought it was "The gift to feel small."
In a way, I think my lyric is better than the original. It fits nicely (especially when paired with "but not out of place at all") with regards to the song's message (as big as we humans are, we are humbled by nature's sheer size and beauty). It also complements the gift shop metaphor.
But that's just my humble opinion (no pun intended).

I think those were the original radio version lyrics of Locked. Can someone back me up on that one?

a friend of mine was listening to Bobcaygeon and my friend thought that when he said "constellations" my friend thought he said "constipation" but I explained to him.
In the song "Makeshift We Are" at the very end I had to listen really hard to figure out what he says, like the very last paragraph.

Up until a few days ago I thought it was "and when the sunlight hits the Autobahn..."

My Postings At Work - 01-12-2006
Whenever I hear a song that was on Live Between Us I always ramble off all the ad libs between the lyrics, much to the amusement of my friends. Anyone that hasn't listened to that CD or that even know the Hip probably thinks I'm nuts- depending on how well the beer's flowing I'm probably emulating GD's stage moves too. And if there's a banana nearby, it's getting shaken.

I think I wore that CD out, if that were possible.
I know it doesn't have much to do with misheard lyrics, but oh well.

You don't have to forget them; we have a strict No Pants policy in effect for all our parties.

Misheard Hip lyrics ... to many to mention on my end. I usually read the lyrics once (on the night I buy the CD) so I tend to get alot of them wrong while singing along with GD at the top of my lungs in the car. :thumb:

With Wheat Kings being the song of the day - for the first time I realized that the lyric I have always sung has been incorrect.
I always had:
In a simple lottery sees a killers face
Maybe it's someone standing in a killers place.
Instead of:
In his Zippo lighter, he sees the killer's face
I always pictured in this song and lyric that this was a police lineup aka simple lottery. I always pictured the witness standing behind the one-way glass pointing out Milgard. 1 out of 5 odds.
I like my way - Damn it - I am keeping it.
OK - that is all - back to your regularly sheduled life.
