It came out in April, and has slowly started kicking my ass.

I love this band.

Agreed! It's a powerful album, and I think it might be the best thing they've done since Brighter Than Creation's Dark. Just read a great review from Exlaim where they call it the most important rock album of 2016. Can't say I disagree.

The last song- Baggage- is just WOW. Man they are great
Pattersons songs are next level on this album, taking nothing away from cooleys efforts, but damn!

Agree, but I sure love Cooley's Surrender Under Protest. American Band is in my top five albums for 2016.

I finally got around to the new Truckers album over the weekend and have played it a lot since that first spin. Easily rising up the ranks of my favourite DBT albums.

Thanks Kory, that was great!

My problem with the album initially was that first single- I can't hear it without hearing "Fourth night of my drinking" and thought it was a less fun rip off of a Hood song- I like the reset of the album though

Re: 2016 Ass Kickers - sean.bonner - 10-21-2016

I know there's a thread dedicated to this band, but holy hell... what an ass kicker...

Of course critics hate it... it's a Phish album.

Also, during the Bob Weir sit in the other night, Bobby unexpectedly took over all the vocals for the track on this album 'Miss You'. The crowd went ape when he sung the first lyrics. The song is about Trey's sister, who passed after a battle with cancer in 2009.

It is one of the best on the album.

After you wipe those tears away, you man need something a little more uplifting...

Listening to the new Leonard Cohen right now, and it's incredible.

This song kicks so much ass:

Ooh nice! I didn't know that was out yet.

There's no way this can be better than Popular Problems though!

Re: 2016 Ass Kickers - direwolf74 - 10-26-2016

So much great new music released lately, it's been hard to keep up. I finally gave John K. Samson's new record a good solid listen over the last few days, and it's every bit as brilliant as I expected. If anybody is going to take over the mantle of Canada's poet laureate from Gord Downie, it'll be Samson. This guy couldn't write a bad lyric if he tried.

That hashtag wants me dead, but I don't mind
It's just another way we grieve
For all the times we failed to be the ones
We thought we had the chance to be

And when it gets too complicated
When you can't get to sleep
When the morning seems impossible
Select all, delete
Select all, delete
Select all, delete

And I don't mean to miss the good old days
The good old days were mostly bad
But I recall how dark the night got then
How absences could make me glad

So when it's too illuminated
Too loud and indiscreet
When it gets you stoned or gets you strange
Select all, delete
Select all, delete
Select all, delete

Re: 2016 Ass Kickers - Chris Tanz - 10-28-2016

Listening to Winter Wheat right now. John K. Samson is brilliant. Postdoc Blues is my favourite so far. The juxtaposition of the playfulness of the first two verses compared to the meaningfulness of the last is striking:

So take that laminate out of your wallet
And read it
And recommit yourself to the healing of the world
And to the welfare of all creatures
Upon it
Pursue a practice that will strengthen your heart

Re: 2016 Ass Kickers - direwolf74 - 11-15-2016

I'm really diggin' the new Sting record. First rock album he's made in years, and it's about as close to a new Police album as you're gonna get in terms of the overall sound. Very solid effort.
