But I got this from Wikipedia and it adds that sharing via p2p networks is allowed..

The music industry created a loophole in Canadian copyright laws when it asked for a levy on blank audio media. These $0.21 to $0.24 levies on blank media raised millions of dollars for music publishers, but also legalized copying in the digital age, to the consternation of the music industry.[2] Canadian courts have ruled that consumers have the right to copy any recording from the original copy even those they do not personally own. This consumer right has been extended by the courts to include peer-to-peer downloads.[3]

Ive been buying cd's since the early 90's and album prices are lower than ever I think. A new release used to be 18.99 and up, now some new albums are 9.99, 12.99 and sometimes 14.99, I almost never see albums go for more than that. And how many times you go into an HMV or best buy and see albums go 2 for 10, 3 for 25 and albums for 9.99?

I find it incredibly difficult to believe that it is completely legal to make unreleased recordings available to the public free of charge without authorization from the rights holder(s).
It may not be illegal to operate a website which allows the public to dowlaod these materials free of charge, and it may not be illegal for the public to download the materials, and it may not be illegal to possess the downloaded materials, but somewhere along the line, SOMEBODY directly violated a rule or broke a law.

Where did you buy CD's? Suckers 'R Us? I'm sure in my lifetime I've bought well over 1,000 CDs, and not once did I pay more than $16.99 for a CD (not including box sets, double CDs, etc).

Yeah. I thought it was a strange name for a store.....
I was exaggerating a little. Regardless, the prices haven't gone up any.

this debate about it being illegal or not is ridiculous...
Im sure every single person here has broken a law somewhere along the line that has taken money from someone before.
How many of you have enjoyed the tail gate parties outside of Molson park, or any other TTH show over the years with a nice cold beer in hand. Well folks, you have broken the law, and taken away from someones profits somewhere.
It wouldnt suprise me if the band or record label actually "leaks" this stuff themselves... its creates buzz amongst the fans, and the people who willbuy the cd...
Chris hit it right here... the expect this stuff... hence the millions of pre order options ect ect.
If your holding out on downloading it.... well good for you... but your really just missing out on something pretty amazing actually... I think its some of thier best work in decades.

Your post is filled with nothing but rationalizations designed to either a) "justify" stealing, b) help yourself not feel guilty about stealing, or c) trivialize or de-emphasize the impacts of your stealing. Do you realize that?
Rationalizing common theft by pointing out other examples of common theft doesn't make common theft "ethical" or "moral". Do you understand that?
Guess what -- learning that some of you are downloading unauthorized copies of WATS for free isn't going to change my opinion of your "character" ONE BIT. Not one iota. I understand it's an EXTREMELY MINOR transgression, and one that is incredibly common. But i must say - those of you discussing it openly and shamelessly on a public forum devoted to the band itself is poor form, and a little galling to me. But hey -- that's ME. I don't expect any of you to give a shit what I think about it.
But what I don't get is the fact that some of you (not ALL) seem to think that your rationalizations somehow "justify" downloading it . Why bother? If you stole it, own it and don't give me some bullshit excuse as to why its "okay" to steal it.
