Jagr has only been one of the greatest players of the last 20 years, that's all. Even in the years in Washington, in which people slagged him like crazy, he was about a point/game player if I remember correctly. The Canadian media always has loved to bash Jagr but the guy has been a phenomenal player for the majority of his career. This season is a disaster for him but, it happens. He's had a long career and players can't stay on top forever.

I'll take a great player who puts up points year in and year out over an "intangibles" player or "team player" ANY DAY OF THE WEEK! Jagr putting up points HELPS HIS TEAMS WIN so I wouldn't even say he hasn't been a team player, either. Has he been disinterested and underperformed at times? Yes, but for the most part, he's been a true impact player.

What do you think of Luongo? That's twice in the last two or three weeks that I've heard him slag his team after a loss. Not exactly a "team" guy with those comments, eh?

ps....I don't blame him for feeling that way but should he really be letting it out to the masses?

He's really only slagged the team in front of him once...and he really didn't slag. All he said was "we have to play better, and I have to stop more shots"

After the loss the Colorado a little while back, he said the team pissed away two points and had three tries to get the puck out but failed. That was a dig at his team. Then, a few nights ago, he said that he can't control what the team does in front of him, which was a dig at the team. Opiated, I completely agree with what he said, but it should probably be said behind closed doors. Luongo has been playing pretty poorly of late but it's not a big deal because his team should be picking him up every once in a while!

Sometimes a public slagging is a good thing.. it really makes the guys in the room stand up and take notice even more so than had the comment been made behind closed doors.. Look what happened to the Habs this year after Guy Lafleur called the them a team full of third liners....

The key thing with that is that Guy doesn't play on the team.
I don't know of many athletes who appreciate being berated publicly by a teammate.

Huge win for the Flames tonight, and a pretty good rebound after that pathetic display in Vancouver a few nights ago. As a Flames fan, nothing feels better than bouncing the Oilers from the playoffs. Although, it would be pretty sweet to see the 'Nucks miss the dance as well. I can't decide which team I hate more. 1 more point and the Flames finally clinch. Hopefully it happens against Minny on Thursday night.

That one really snuck up on me. The games left on the schedule make it a distinct possibility. And Leafs fans, who can't actually cheer for their own team, will indulge in the annual rite of cheering that their team had something to do with a rival not making the playoffs.

Holy crap, what a melt-down. The question is, if they do make it, will they find their legs or suffer a speedy first-round humiliation?

Ah, so you were forecasting it as a potential annual rite based on it happening last year. Got it. I guess I was confused as I generally consider annual rites to be things that, you know, actually happen annually.

Good luck to you Habs fans in the playoffs. I think I've posted this before, but I seem to have mellowed on the Habs in recent years. I'm pretty amazed at the season they've put together. I kept waiting for the crash that never came, once again showing why I could never make a living with my hockey predictions. Given how phenomenal their PP has been, it bodes well for the playoffs where special teams become even more important.

Give it a couple of days, and you'll be staggered at my ability to predict a trend.

I'm going to say what I said last year, in advance: if the Leafs do beat Ottawa, their fans can't claim that they knocked Ottawa out of the playoffs. Ottawa will have knocked themselves out, over a period of months.

A whole host of teams could claim to have scored the decisive blow. Ottawa will be like that girl who hangs around the barracks: no single man could honestly claim to have given her the clap.

Price made some killer saves last nite, if it wasnt for the lockout and all the Crosby mania we never would have been able to draft him. I hope Ottawa doesnt make it, Im sick of their pity act every year, oh woe is us, why cant we win the big one! Waaaaaah! Even if they do I dont think they can win a series, Gerber will fall flat on his face and Emery is to bitter to be relied on, its a disaster waiting to happen.
