I thought the Flames hit rock bottom with that 5-0 stinker against the Oil a few weeks back, but last night they hit a new low with that debacle of a game against Atlanta. Blowing a 3-goal lead against the worst team in the NHL when first place in your division is on the line?? Yikes. That's two games in a row now where they've completely crapped the bed against bottom-feeder teams. I hope Colorado enjoys first place, because they've earned it. The Flames are an embarrassment right now. I don't know what's wrong with them, but they'd better right the ship soon or it's gonna be a very long summer.

Don Cherry made the point the a few weekends ago, and I agree with him, that Gerber needs to know he's the guy, he can't play well when there's pressure on his job. At the start of this season he played great when Emery was hurt, and when Emery came back Gerber started shitting the bed, and now that Murray has basically relegated Emery as the permanent backup Gerber is playing really well again.
I don't know how much I agree with that theory. Cherry tried to make the point that Gerber didn't play well in the 05/06 playoffs because Cam Ward was nipping at his heels. The problem with that theory is that it simply isn't true. Gerber was the
clear #1 heading into the playoffs, having started 57 regular season games to Ward's 25, and the only reason Ward played in the playoffs at all was because of how raycroft Gerber was.
Personally, I think Gerber is simply inconsistent. When he's on his game, he's awesome. When he's off, he's raycroft. There just doesn't appear to be a middle ground with him.

 I like how 'raycroft' was intentionally not capitalized

I'm nearly certain that the reason Ward played goal for the Hurricane's in the first round was because Gerber became ill. The following route to the Cup probably had more to do with Ward's stellar play during that time than Gerbers' Raycroftish play (Raycroftish holding the present connotation; the adjective Raycroftish in 2005-06 and prior held a different value).

It seems the league has changed its mind, and Pronger is now suspended 8 games for the stomping incident...

Great news.. I'd love to hear Brian Burke's reaction to this  I can't wait to hear him defend Pronger's actions and prove even more how big of an asshole he is

There is definitely a double standard in the NHL. Pronger has never gotten a suspension that fits the crime. If anything, this is an advantage for the Ducks. Now Prongers jaw can heal, and he can rest up for the playoffs.
Sometimes I have to agree with what Roenick ranted about a few years ago, that the NHL is a "joke" and it has to "wake-up".

I listened to Mike Milbury this morning about the stomping done by Pronger as opposed to the one by Simon.
He is exactly right "Its about the timing and the playoffs coming up and making sure Pronger is there for the playoffs." So that is why only 8 games.
That is just Garbage. :x

The same Roenick who told fans to "kiss my ass" during the lockout? The same Roenick who admitted to showing up to camp out of shape after the lockout to "teach the NHL a lesson"?
Yeah, I'd sure listen to him - he'd know all about "jokes".
