Heatley just cried during intermission about being held up. :roll: :roll: How can anyone cheer for such crybabies? It boggles my mind.

5 on 3 powerplays this series:

Ottawa - 2
Anaheim- 0

Never mind that Mike Fisher got away with about three penalties before actually being called for one all in on shift. :rambo:

Never mind that the period was great, with the referees letting the teams play, until a few seconds left in the period when one of them decided to call a phantom hook on Macdonald. Ottawa got away with at least two hits from behind during the period also, which was fine because I'd rather the teams play 5 on 5 all game than it turn into a powerplay bonanza.

And the elbow on Comrie that drew blood? A phantom hooking call that, for the entire regular season and playoffs, has always constituted a hooking call? And he didn't appear to be crying about being held up at all, in fact he acknowledged how he had to adapt his game. The biased bullshit still works both ways, so it seems.

"Just days after NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said Jim Balsillie had no plans to move the Nashville Predators, a company controlled by Mr. Balsillie was given exclusive rights by Hamilton city council to operate an NHL team at Copps Coliseum.

In addition to its unanimous endorsement, the city council said it would go ahead and discuss with Golden Horseshoe Sports and Entertainment, the group headed by Mr. Balsillie, expanding the option to include other facilities operated by Hamilton Entertainment and Convention Facilities Inc. (HECFI), including Hamilton Place and the Convention Centre."

Looks like the Hamilton Predators....

You can expect MLSE to do everything they can to block that. Putting a competent team in the Leafs' backyard would be scary....

Still bitter that the Leafs knocked the Habs out of the playoffs eh?

This will be interesting to say the least. The amount of money the Leafs make is crazy. When Sportsnet purchased the regional rights for Leafs broadcasts a few weeks ago I pro-rated that over all 82 games, and essentially the Leafs regional rights alone - in theory - cover their salary costs. Add in tickets and merchandise, etc, and it is crazy to think how much money MLSE is making.

But one thing that destroys a ticket-buying fanbase is that fanbase knowing the team is likely going to be moved, which fosters the argument they have to be moved. Just ask Vancouver Grizzly fans.

And for all you Bettman bashers......the Preds are one of those "struggling" franchises, yet they were sold for $220 million (the original owner paid $80 million in 1997). Pretty good return on investment if you ask me. And you wonder how Bettman keeps his job.

As I've pointed out previously, the Habs can only blame themselves for their incompetent play through the latter half of the season, so I see no need to be bitter towards the Leafs.

The point is, no matter how much money MLSE may be making today, they have to be dischuffed at the spectre of a really good team moving in down the street and chipping away at their fan base.

Which winning teams tend to do.

Same same if the Preds were moving to Laval, say.

I understand that is the point. I didn't refute it. And I fully expect that, as the NHL's main "tenant", MLSE will do everything in their power to stop a move to Hamilton or KW, privately at least. I don't expect that whatever goes on behind closed doors between Bettman, Basille, and MLSE to ever be made public. I was merely pointing out that the Leafs make MLSE an insane amount of money. Of course the Leafs aren't alone. The Oilers were crying poverty recently yet - strangely - said the team wasn't for sale when a buyer put forth an unsolicited offer. I don't know about you, but if someone wanted to take a "money-losing" venture of my hands, I'd accept. Makes one wonder what the real story is.

No way would they keep the same team name...if they go to Hamilton, they should be called the Tigers. That was their pro hockey team before they folded back in the '20's.

It's not just as simple as paid $80M, got back $220M though, as the team was losing money every year. I'm sure he still ended up making money overall, but to suggest he nearly tripled his investment in 10 years is misleading.

As for Hamilton, I would think the likely scenario is Copps would be a temporary home while they build a new arena in K-W. He'd probably have to pay the Leafs a fee to waive their territorial rights for a year or two, but it would be far less than what it would be if the team was staying there permanently. If they were going to stay in Hamilton for the long term, Copps would require serious upgrades, probably at a cost approaching that of a new building anyway.
