No, I'm not talking about this upcoming card, I'm talking about the one that should be coming to Montreal in April.

It was speculated that Hughes/GSP 2 would take place (if GSP beat Serra)but I'm wondering what will happen now? GSP/Serra in Montreal? I don't think I'd pay to see THAT fight live....

The Montreal card has been cancelled from all accounts I've read. I think it fell apart even before GSP's injury was announced.

Really??? That sucks, but maybe it's for the best right now with GSP injured and all....here's to summer/fall 07 in Montreal :thumb:

UFC 69 in Montreal Called Off
Bad news for our neighbors north of the border who were looking forward to the UFC 69 card, which was expected to take place in Montreal and feature a main event of UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre (13-1 MMA, 7-1 UFC) versus Diego Sanchez (17-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC). According to UFC president Dana White, the event has been called off.

While talking to reporters in San Diego during the UFC Fight Night 7 event earlier this month, White said April’s UFC 69 event would be the organization’s first in Canada. He also said the event would host the rubber match of St. Pierre and Matt Hughes (40-5 MMA, 14-3 UFC), whom St. Pierre beat in convincing fashion at UFC 65 to win the welterweight title.

White later said he spoke too soon, claiming Hughes wanted a tune-up fight before the rematch with St. Pierre. Sanchez then became St. Pierre’s likely opponent for UFC 69.

However, all the discussion now appears to have been pointless.

From Neil Davidson:

“Fell apart, unfortunately,” White said. “There were a lot of different things that made that fight fall apart.

“I’m trying to regroup right now and figure out when we go to Canada.”

White said the UFC is still looking at ways to do an event in Canada, but as of now, he has no answers.

Considering all of the big news the UFC has announced lately, including some marquee signings of top MMA fighters, I’m willing to give White a free pass on this one.

Of course, it’s easy for me to say. March’s UFC 68 event will likely take place in Columbus, Ohio — just a 90-minute drive away from my house.

Sounds like the UFC will eventually come to Canada. As for GSP, he frustrates the hell out of me. This is the second time recently that he's had to pull out of a fight. The originally scheduled Hughes rematch and now this fight with Serra. STAY HEALTHY GSP! DAMN!

holy shit, thats crazy. I odn't know what to make of that. I don't think Sylvia is the best heavyweight in the division, now that Crocop is there and also I think Arlovski can still beat him. Randy hasn't fought since earlier in 06 when he lost to Liddell for the second time. Should be entertaining anyway.

Cant remember exactly when he said the fight was. Early March? March 3rd maybe? It was on that show that Joe Rogan hosts now. Almost blew soup out my nose when he said that he was back. Think its a 4 fight contract too.

If it's March. then it will be ufc 68 in Ohio I think,

ufc's website still has ?? on Sylvia's opponent, but that'll probably change shortly

No, I believe you, I was watching the "Inside the UFC" show last night too, but fell asleep for the Couture announcement.

I figured he was coming out of retirement, but to fight Silvia, I had no idea

I KNOW FOR A FACT that Sylvia isn't the best HW in the division. Cro Crop fought competitively with Fedor and I can't imagine how ugly a fight would be between Fedor and Sylvia. I don't know if the NSAC would even sanction that mismatch. Big Grin

Arlovski had 3 chances and only won 1 time against Sylvia. Screw Arlovski and his glass chin. If he's too scared to fight Sylvia (as he was in their 3rd fight), then forget about him.

I guess Vera was supposed to fight Sylvia but he can't come to terms on a new contract with the UFC. The sad thing is that Couture was a LHW when he retired and he's coming back to fight at HW at what, 44 years of age or so? The even sadder part is that Couture will probably WIN!

Yeah what does it say about the calibre of a division when someone who retired after losing 2 consecutive fights in a lighter division comes back to fight in the heavier divison because he feels he can beat the heavyweight champ but not the light heavy weight champ. I wonder what would happen if Couture did win? who would he fight after Sylvia? would he ever go up against CroCop?

Cro Crop would kill him and Dana White knows this. I'm not sure Couture will beat Sylvia, even though I don't think much of Sylvia. I still think Couture could fight at 205 and beat the likes of Babalu, Griffin, Ortiz though. He's a very small HW. Cro Cop is around 220 but he is a killer and a striker. Couture is a wrestler. I think Couture should have stayed retired. The UFC needs new blood, not the same recycled 50 year olds.
