That's a start. And don't take a new car to Chicago, Detroit, St. Louis, Boston, Las Vegas, Houston, New Orleans, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, etc. Would you be saying these same things if your car got hooked in any of those cities? Because it happens there too - whether it be crime rings or crackheads.

If instead of getting your car ripped, you got broadsided by someone running a red light, would you be on here bitching about Canadian traffic-law enforcement?

Here's a tissue. No go collect your insurance payment (which will be bigger than it should be thanks to those "200 discs" *wink, wink*), and go buy another car, Sally.

Let's attempt to process this problem using more than three neurons.

Why, do ya think, does a ring of professional car thieves operating in Montreal target American cars, specifically? We might hypothesize that it's because they like to hear their victims bash Canada, or there is something specific about the ensuing whining that they particularly enjoy, but the answer is probably much simpler: because those vehicles are more difficult to trace.

Let us proceed with that in mind. Why might the recovery rate be only 2%, then, vs. 67% in the US? Could this be related to the difficulty in tracing said vehicles, or are we proposing that the Montreal police choose not to investigate the thefts of American vehicles, specifically, with anything resembling vigour?

I'd say the answer to that one becomes increasingly clear as one activates more brain cells.

What, one wonders, is the rate of recovery of Mexican cars stolen in San Diego, or of Canadian cars stolen in NYC?

I thank our American friends for pointing out that we have crime in Canada, as if Canadians themselves have failed to notice the fact, but I assure them that this is something of which we are aware. Maybe we don't find it scary because we live here.

Funny how that works.

I do. What can I say, I'm a traditionalist. I like owning the original artwork/packaging, and I also really enjoy the physical activity of actually walking into a record store and browsing for new music. It's fun!

Yeah, I wouldn't give up the artwork, the packaging, the feel of the actual http://thing in your hands. But I also still own records, by which I mean those black vinyl things. :oops:

And yeah, there's something to be said for shopping for the things. When you wander round the store and find something unexpected. It's easy to buy, say, a Syd Barrett solo disc online, or to order it. It's a lot more rewarding to find it.
