I went and saw Over The Hedge instead, glad I did, it was hilarious!

Don't feel ashamed, I'm going to see Over the Hedge next week. Da Vinci Code was an ok movie, nothing too special. I think Hanks was a bit too wooden in it and I didnt like the way they changed the ending.

I tried to read the book and found I couldn't--you know how there are some style tics you don't mind and others that drive you nuts? I couldn't handle the infodumps and the general prose style bugged me so I decided I'd prefer it as a movie.
As a movie... well, it had Paul Bettany in it, which is a plus even when he plays a mad albino assassin-monk who never blinks. I found him very scary except when he spoke English (his Spanish accent sounded o much like Mandy Patinkin's Spanish accent that I expected him to come out with "You killed my father--prepare to die!")
There was a fairly fabulous car chase scene early on, but overall I sort of felt like Ron Howard took the movie a little more seriously than the content warranted. And there are an awful lot of scenes in which the Hanks character and the McKellan character deliver long speeches to the Audrey Tatou character.
Not a great movie, I thought, but get the big popcorn and you should be fine.
