I drove back from north Carolina on Sunday if cost me 45 bucks to fill in US dollers, it cost me about 70 bucks to fill in Canada before I left and it was just under a buck, I think it was 2.79 a gallon for premium. So yes it is still cheaper to drive in the states.

I think I'm going to sell my car. Move into the city, buy a bike and bus pass. There ya go. Less than $100 a month on transportation cost.
As a student, this inflation is killing me. I really cant afford this, I can't pocket any money or save it, it goes right to my car. And I have a friggin Hyundai Accent, gets over 40 miles to the gallon.
What peeves me off are the people you see on the news, or in the paper quoted as saying "gas is ridiculous, how can we POSSIBLY afford to live like this?!?!", with them there filling up their friggin Dodge Ram extended cab with the Hemmy. :|

ok in europe they pay well over $2/L for gas... and it's been like that for quite a while... even though I agree it's beginning to get out of hand considering the amount of tax canadians pay on gas, it could be much worse
i drive a neon that takes premium and have been paying $1.10/L for a while now, now it's up another 0.10.. so what, that works out to an extra like $2 or $3 when I fill up... i'm a student myself and you know what, i can afford to save that extra $10 every couple weeks by not buying lunch or going for drinks or buying a new tshirt
my neon doesn't do 40mpg, maybe 30-35 if i'm lucky, even still i'm not complaining because i could be driving something alot more thirsty
just my 0.02, let the flaming begin...

I would never judge anyone by their opinion but you drive a neon that takes PREMIUM? How'd ya work that one out?

yeah, and unfortunately if you put 87 into it the pep goes bye-bye and gas mileage shrinks (i switched to 87 for about 4 months to see what would happen and i could physically feel the decrease in hp and only got 300km's out of a tank VS. 450-500 with 91)... i never thought it would make that kind of difference but it does

In Europe they import all their gas, in Canada we get it all from Alberta, why should we be paying over a dollar a litre for our gas, when every other gas producing country pays pennies a litre.
Gas is the only product I can think of where the GST is taxed on top of the PST. Tax on gas is as rediculous as us paying more for our own oil than everyone else.

I'm glad my Dodge Spirit doesnt take preminum.
Its alot better on gas than my Buick Regal I used to have, not to mention it had a fairly small tank on it. A full tank, could not get me 400kms

holy shit i went out to the pumps a half hour ago in moncton and gas there is $1.30.9!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Changing down to 87 is bad for a car that needs 91, not good for the engine, can create knocking. YOu can probably get away with 89, but if I were you I wouldn't do that again, but it sounds like you already know that. I have an Altima 3.5 SE that requires premium and it is a big tank so it costs a lot to fill up, good thing I ride my bike or take the TTC to work.

yep, pcm retards the timing once it realizes the change in octane and big time engine knock follows... and a bunch of other bad stuff too
