The 'Phins won that game because they got lucky and the Pats got sloppy and complacent. A great team, that does not make.
no the phins did not win because they were lucky, they won because they OUTWORKED AND OUTPLAYED NE, if anything luck was going against them, there was a missed pass interference call on Miami 3rd and long, forcing Miami to go for it on 4th, and Feeley delivered the goods. Then Miami's D got the pick and the game was over...that's not luck, that is good football, just wait'll we get our run game back.

NE was bored having to play a tier two team, and by that time their playoff ranking had already been set. It was Miami's game of the year. As for NE, they couldn't have cared less.
As a wise man once said: the dog finds his ass every once in awhile.

The Darkest Canuck - 02-07-2005
funny you should say that, i've always thought NE were "ass"
don't kid yourself, NE weren't bored, it was a close game all game, and you have to know the pride that NE play with, there's no way in hell they wanted to lose to Miami, a division rival, especailly in light of Miami's poor record this season. NE doesn't like losing to anybody, that should be pretty obvious i think, their record over the past few seasons speaks for itself, they are a Dynasty no doubt, and for Miami to know that they can and did beat one of the elite teams of all time is something that they can really look back on and use to inspire themselves with, and also somethign that nobody will ever be able to take away from them for the rest of their lives. not too many teams, have been able to beat NE over tha past few years, i'll give credit where credit is due, Buffalo spanked NE last year, but that was before they really got the ball rolling, Miami not only beat NE, they ended a NE winning streak.

VioletlightHeron - 02-07-2005
Like I said, NE got sloppy and complacent and Miami took advantage of that. That was a good lesson for NE to re-learn about never resting on your laurels.
-
The Darkest Canuck - 02-07-2005
true enough, i'm not saying NE played their best game, because they obviously didn't or they would've won, BUT, it's not as though they played an absolutely horrible game either, they competed, and were winning for most of the game, and they put 20+ points up on the board, they gave it a decent effort, just a few key errors that cost them, and on the other side of the ball, Miami tightened up and played a more disciplined, smarter game, something they're fully capable of doing against other teams, but it seems they often lack the focus or direction necessary, obviously a big part of that this year was the fact that so many people were coming in and out of the organization, i have faith that they will be a much improved team next season under coach Saban, and with the addition of a new RB.

The Pats DID play a pretty good game, not perfect but they looked like they deserved to win it. I was amazed how quiet the field was once the fireworks died down...maybe I'm spoiled from seeing all them kids on the Lightning freaking out when they won the Cup, but I thought it was kinda unimpressive.

Well, I think the show is just for 'entertainment', and I do not think that the fans attending Superbowl XXXIX need to have their energy-level boosted by a pop music performance at halftime. This was the best Superbowl halftime show I've ever seen, because it WASN'T trying to be the gala-event-of-the-century. Just a great musician doing his thing with excellence. Fifty times better than seeing that horrible spectacle a few years ago where Aerosmith sang a duet with freaking
BRITTANY SPEARS.

Where did I put words into your mouth?

are you kidding me!?!?!?! that performance was way over the top! with all the fans colour coordinated to spell out NA NA in red whiate and blue, and the way everybody on the field had a lighter, the fantastic light show, and when he had THE ENTIRE STADIUM sing along with him...AND THE FIREWORKS...if that's not a Gala event i don't know what is. IT'S PAUL FREAKIN' MCARTNEY IN A STADIUM OF 80 000+ @ THE SUPERBOWL!

Yeah- such as Brady's zer0 interceptions in the postseason, or maybe his undefeated postseason (10-0?) status. Being from near Ann Arbor (Brady attended UM) I'm a big fan, although I must confess I was secretly hoping for the upset. Either way, think they'll keep it together next season too?

NO WAY! GO PHINS!
STEP 1: sign good RB
STEP 2: make wise usage of high draft pick
STEP 3: win at least 3 out of 6 divisional matchups
STEP 4: make playoffs
STEP 5: get to AFC championship game
STEP 6: win AFC championship game
STEP 7: win Superbowl
STEP 8: let Marino hoist Lombardi Trophy
STEP 9: taunt losing NFC team
STEP 10: taunt Patriots fans
STEP 11: taunt Bills fans
STEP 12: GLOAT!!!!!!!!!!!!
now that's what i call a 12-step program.
-
tragicallymike - 02-07-2005
why the hell would you want marino to hoist the lombardi trophy? He is not affiliated with the team anymore and would have nothing to do with the championship. If the bills won I wouldnt want Jim Kelly anywhere near that trophy trying to take the limelight from those who deserved it. By the way only 2 of those steps are even remotely feasible for your phins (#'s 1 and 2)

and he forgot signing a competent quarterback too

Id rather they just keep trading 2nd round picks for less than average QB's

Was Brady much of a QB for the Wolverines? I can't remember... but I guess it doesn't really matter because he's a heck of a QB now.
I was reading some columns on ESPN.com, and while no one can guarantee the Patriots will win again (nobody in their right mind would guarantee that now), they seem in agreement that they'll be right there again next year and maybe the next couple years after that. They already lost their coordinators (Weis to Notre Dame, Crennel to Cleveland), and they'll lose a few players, but they still have lots of talent and Belichick will find a way to fill in the gaps. Pretty depressing for fans of other NFL teams, but it's the truth.
Just a side-note since you mentioned UM... I watched the Rose Bowl, tough luck for the Wolverines, but that was one HELL of a game... miles better than the Super Bowl.
