I must say, I FRIGGING LOVE THIS SONG!

Stephen Dame, you're daft and you don't know what yer talkin about. Tongue

I got it like an hour or so ago and I have played it repeatedly repeatedly repeatedly and haven't had a split-second of silence from this very very cool song. The beginning kinda has some familiarity to it. Can't place it. How it fades in? Hmm.... But still, I love this song!

As for the iTunes situation, why this division between Canadians and Americans? Why not just have an international iTunes so everybody can get the songs instead of being left out due to location? It seems really stupid that Americans can't get their hands on this.... Can our Hipbasers across the pond get this too or are they in the yard howling as much as Americans?

Because the way the music industry is set up globally, copyrights have to be negotiated individually in every country.

Yeah, that makes sense.

So why did Canada pick this up and America didn't, do ya think?

Ah, no wait, we come back to that exhausted "not-big-in-America" topic...

"Daft?" What are you, my cockney grandmother? Smile Excuse me while I go to the lou and then partake in a spot of tea.

What better way to bring Itunes to Canada then to give an exclusive song by a band that seems to represent Canada the best. I think they felt this was an easy way to get people on itunes

 But the question is; a spot of tea and crumpets?... or biscuits?

i'm in the US and i had no problem downloading it.
when you go to the itunes homepage there is a US Flag, if you click on the flag you can pick a different country and theres the Canadian flag. click on that and there it is.
nice and easy

That's interesting, because unless your credit card address is in Canada, you shouldn't be able to download from the "Canadian" store.

Stephen Dame Wrote:To me, it's the rant set to music, not a complete song. It doesn't seem to go anywhere, and it's obvious why it was left off the album: there's just no spark. It's an accurate depiction of "not trying to hide the lights" or the way Gord often refers to "the process," but it deserved to be cut.

I kind of agree with you. The sudden end to the song is kind of jarring. It just feels like it needs a third verse.

I like it - I like the way the 2nd verse starts and I like Paul's vocals, but I don't love it. Nevertheless, worth the 99 cents.

I had passed over this thread thinking it was a discussion involving a lyric from Vaccination Scar (which actually is "Life is forgetting") When I realized what this thread was about, I finally broke down, signed up with iTunes & bought the song. It was the best 99 cents I've ever spent!

hotmetal401 Wrote:So back to the song itself.

It sounds structured very similar to Fighter Fighter, with the breaks and instrumentation. FF is a harder song, but there are defiently of the same kin.

It sounded really good in the headphones on the way back from class. It's not catchy in a radio way, but in the way you can kind of shake your ass to if you really wanted to.

Cheers

Pat

I have to agree. The song seems to not really have a definitive structure. The chorus just seems to 'appear' without any real build-up, similar to Fighter Fighter... and then its back to the status quo after it does come. I still think its a good song... but I don't think the lyrical content was the reason to omit the song from the album... and it truly does need a bridge, or something, after the second chorus (I'm feeling a key change to 'B'... and then back to the final chorus)... I do like the progression at the beginning of the song... from the feedback to the sound of side-alley drums to the true studio drums to the secondary guitar kick-in with the lyrics...

It sounds a lot like 'cuttooth' by Radiohead. Not as good, though. I can fully understand why it didn't make the final cut for IBE. Good, not great.

- beanmedic - 12-03-2004

It reminds me a lot of Fighter Fighter. They are both decent songs but lacking something that you cant quite put your finger on. i recall a topic earlier that said something about Kasper cutting the 3 most political songs, and that maybe he was just trying to avoid political statements (or something to that effect). I am now convinced that he cut them simply because they are weak in comparison to the other tracks on the album.
