By the way, I stole that "mashed potatoes" line from a hilarious article about Matchbox 20 at The Onion. Check it out:

Sick of these types of posts. I don't know how many times I have seen this one or one just like it. And I haven't been coming here that long.

I hear ya...it is because people dont bother with searching before starting a new thread. :?

Well, it should be common sense that ANY "list thread" relating to the artists' music has already been done. In a board with tens of thousands of posts, you would have to pick something as obscure as "Your Favourite Songs In Which Gord Does Not Use The Word "The"" to not repeat something already posted.

The nature of web boards is that they be circular.

What I hate about these kinds of 'list' threads is that people seldom respond to one another's lists, or to their explanations of their choices---they usually become just a monologue barrage: 'here's my list, here's my list, here's MY list, now this is my list, etc...'

Fun to write, boring to read.

The release has been eagerly awaited by Matchbox Twenty's enormous fan base, composed of American record buyers who have a limited interest in music but enjoy the act of shopping.

So very true, both points.

If everyone always just searched a topic they wouldn't feel welcomed to engage...what's worse the monthly top "whatever" poll, or a reply to a post 3 months old? I say who cares, don't read them (except for the moderators) if it bothers you...

so there.....

1. fc
2. pp
3. ibe

It is not just the minor annoyance from readers, it is the fact that it takes up bandwidth for topics that have been covered many many times. No matter what, people who have already taken part in the past (same) lists still take part in the new lists. If someone were to just post on the old thread then people who have already responded wont feel the need to respond again...hence, less bandwidth.
