The performance of NOIS in cleveland was better than most I have seen. I was about to agree with most of you and say they could skip it. After the Cleveland show, I could not disagree more. Bobby Baker played his ass off and even changed it up a bit. Gord was in rare form. He really got into this performance. They followed it with "Gus". Their performance of this song was unbelievable. Gord sang the song like he used to sing the old Road Apples songs. Nasty and strong. Great show. I know it will be tough to duplicate in Syracuse. But that is what this band does best, they get better and better each show.

i just love how anyone who criticizes the band in any way, shape or form is not a "true" fan. :roll: give me a break.
i would love to see how many shows NOIS has NOT been played at, but the search function on this site can't do that. (coding that feature would bea bitch)

i think that some people here are under the impression that i have seen the hip dozens and dozens of times. truth be told, i have only see them 4 or 5 times. i used to have a couple hundred shows on tape (yes, i am that old) but i haven't listened to them in years.
again, my reasoning for saying that nois should retire is that hte 5 times i have seen it, the band looked so incredibly bored. gord D plays the guitar in it now, and you can't even hear it. they don't jam it out like they used to.
anyway, i am done with this post, i need to get back to work.

Poets is the best song on PP (IMO) and is definately the most popular from that album, if anything Fireworks or Bobcaygeon could use a bit of a rest, but surely not Poets! same thing goes for Gift Shop. I do agree that Something On should be played more, as well as Locked In The Trunk Of A Car, BUT...if there was ever a song that absolutely needed to be brought back into heavy rotation in the setlists it has to be GREASY JUNGLE! what happened!?!?!?!?!?! why don't they ever play this song? it's not obscure or anything, it was a massive hit, and yet in the three times i've seen the hip they've yet to play it
. I know the story behind 38 Years Old and i understand why they don't play that one anymore, but c'mon, BRING BACK GREASY JUNGLE! that would be the ultimate final encore song. it wouldn't hurt the boys to bust out Boots Or Hearts or Twist My Arm a little more often either.

Fireworks should DEFINITELY take a five year hiatus. I am really, truly sick of that song...even more so than NOIS.

Poets? To me that's almost always a set highlight.
But I definitely agree that 'Gift Shop' needs a hiatus. That tune has bored me since the Music@work tour.

Well, everyone has an opinion which is cool. Mark, I do agree that we should be able to criticize the band. High praise for something is meaningless unless there is some criticism too. It's just this idea that the Hip should be playing the songs that a minority of people want to hear that is puzzling. Sure, I'd love to hear more songs from DFN or UTH but it's not going to happen. A lot of people on hipbase don't want to hear NOIS but what about the thousands of other people at the show? If the Hip still play these staple songs I assume they still enjoy them. I know they play them to cater to the fans a bit but still do you think they would be playing these songs if they hated performing them? NOIS looks like a great song to be on stage wailing to and others are like that as well. In the end, I enjoy the show whichever songs they do choose but I do respect everyone's opinion.

That's kind of surprising, isn't it? I thought this band played way more shows than that...407 shows over 15 years averages only 27 shows a year. That can't be right...this is a road warrior's band! Or at least I always got the impression it was...

You've got to figure in the time taken off over the holidays and the amount of time where they are in the studio making new albums. If you look back at 2002-2003, the boys were on hiatus for around 6 months, figure in 15 years of being a band and having a life away from the band, it averages out to 27 shows a year.

I think a lot of Day For Night should make an appearance, but as it is, the album is 10 years old, and half the people in the seats at any given show don't even own the album... Greasy Jungle would be really nice, but I pray every show I go to for Thugs... thats such an awesome live song...
