Good point!! I think we should have an Old Timers league for the next season where management, coaches, boards of directors, COOs, etc have to play the game out on the ice so they can see the player's-ey-view of the game!
:lol: I can just hear the play-by-play now..."and Bobby Clarke is slowly lumbering towards the net...he stumbles...the defenceman Hitchcock is trying to get towards him but he's dropped his stick and can't bend down to pick it up...Clarke shoots...the puck goes towards the net...still going...going...going...stops ten feet out of the crease. Team 1 calls a time out for five minutes to get all the players back to the bench for a line change."

There are 30 NHL franchises. There are hundreds of professional hockey players. The majority of players in the NHL right now won't be in the NHL in five years as they will be replaced by younger, faster, and cheaper players, but the majority of owners will still own their teams. Players are disposable cattle. The majority of hockey fans cheer for the team, not the players. Did thousands of Habs fans stop cheering for the Habs when Roy was traded to the Avs? Did thousands of Leaf fans stop cheering for the Leafs when Wendel Clark was traded to the Nordiques? Didn't think so.

You're missing the part where Clarke two hands Milbury across the ankles for the deal Milbury gave Yashin, and all of the owners give Clarke a standing ovation. But then Lemaire, bitter at the deal Clarke gave Leclair, slew foots Clarke and Clarke's head hits the ice and he gets knocked unconscious, and all of the owners give Lemaire a standing ovation.

1. that's really nice of you to have such a high opinion of the players who've dedicated their whole lives to playing hockey. btw, last time i checked they were human beings too.
2. actually, thousands of habs fans did stop cheering for Montreal and jumped ship over to Colorado when Roy was traded (bastards).
3. i don't mean to piss anyone off, or be overly negative for no reason here, but i have a really bad gut feeling about Calgary (whenever NHL play actually resumes that is)...can you say...Anahiem?

A huge part? Are you serious? On a deep team Conroy would be best utilized as a third line checking centre, not a #1. Any offense he contributed is because he played on a line with Iginla. Furthermore, the guy only scored 8 goals last year. Conroy's a nice guy and a fan favourite, but he's certainly not the key reason why the Flames did what they did last year. Team USA certainly learned in a hurry just how much Iginla had to do with any of Conroy's success.
By the way, the Flames already have replaced Conroy. They picked up Daymond Langkow from Phoenix. He's younger, faster, and much more consistent. Plus, he's from Alberta so you know Sutter loves him already (Conroy and Sutter had a very strained relationship).

Dedicated their whole lives to playing hockey?!? That's HILARIOUS! You make it sound like they should be treated like people who've dedicated their lives to charity, or to curing diseases, or to helping in third world countries.
Hockey players are hockey players. They play a game for a living and they get compensated very, very well for it. Just because they play hockey for a living doesn't mean they deserve any more or any less respect than the rest of us who have to work for a living.

Unreal eh? Out of one side of their mouths the owners talk about the need for a cap. Out of the other side of their mouths they sign 31 year old third line centres to deals for $12.6 million. I don't support the players in this, but it is very tough to say that the owners are 100% right when they do stoooopid things like this.

my uncle played in the nhl, and aside from the friends, the people he met, and the memories, all he has to show for it is a bum leg. the poor guy has to work a 9-5 still to support his family, and because he played hockey, he never had, and probably never will have a chance to go back to school, and will probably have to work til he's in his 50's or 60's just like the rest of us. that doesn't sound like very good compensation to me for the countless hours, blood, sweat, and tears that he put into it. what the nhl players do for a living is WORK, in fact their work is some of the hardest work in the world. they have to train all year round, risk injury every time they get on the ice, take beatings night in and night out, they're always on the road and away from their loved ones, and if you aren't producing, or you're in a bit of a slump you get called a bum, despite the fact that just to get to the NHL you've had to prove yourself a million times over. aside from that, hockey players are almost always involved in their communities helping out charities and whatnot, making public appearances ect. i'd like to see you or any of the people that criticize the players try walking in their shoes, and i'm not talking about the shoes of a Mario Lemieux, or a Gretzky or a Sakic, or a huge superstar (not that they haven't worked incredibly hard either), i'm talking about your average hockey player who gets sent back and forth between his NHL team and farm club, who's had to go play in Europe, who's had to fight his way out of small town Canada (or USA or w/e) tooth and nail all the way just for a shot at the big time. it's no bed of roses, and even if it is it's sure to have more than its fair share of thorns.
