How about the drunk idiots that whip it out (during the show) and just start pissing in front of everyone. I encountered this SEVERAL times at the DMB show at Darien Lake. (general admission, lawn) I even got the priviledge of having my foot pissed on. YAY! What a cool dude that was.

And like everyone else said...cell phones, people screaming, big groups of people making huge trains and running all around the place constantly blocking the view....etc, etc.

One more...last year at the DMB show this one woman brought her 3 small children to the show...all under the age of 5. The kids were told to lie on the blanket and go to sleep. All the while there were drunk idiots running all over the place (almost trampled on the poor kids numerous times)..UGH. We wanted to move but were inclined to stay and protect this stupid woman's children. (she stood with her back to the kids the whole time...and we were behind them) What gets me is that she had to pay for 4 adult tickets total...WHY???? :x

That's funny, so do I. I have them on 20 sec video clips too. It's great for a laugh. I will try to post the picture. :thumb:

I simply cannot believe what I’m reading. Seriously.

It’s aboot as ironic as reading a three-page thread on a Phish board entitled, “Take a Bath, You Fucking Hippy!”

- Noricu - 07-24-2004

Sounds like the Sarnia Bayfest crowd is a majority of Concert Fools.

Noone says you have to read it...simple as that.

I always get a kick out of those people, I mean they have never ruined a show for me by any means, just find it funny I guess. And yes, they are at every show...

Wino, help us out on this one...

Captain Canada! I love that guy! :jump :jump :jump

I think he was at Darien last night...he was draped in the flag, drinking a beer, and yelling "WOOOOOOOOOOO" every 30 seconds. Oh gawd, thank heavens he wasn't sitting near us!!

Great topic.

LITTLE BOOOOOOOOOONES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Talker(s) - At the Thursday HoB Chicago IVL show, I had the "pleasure" of standing next to two "ladies" who talked for about 30 minutes non-stop at a volume that drowned out the music. Why go to a concert if all you want to do is talk? Why not save the $25-$50 and go to a bar that has no cover?

The Grenade Launcher - someone who throws crap (bottles, lighters, full cups of beer, glow sticks, etc, etc) on stage and/or at the muscians themselves. What the hell is the point of this? "I really like XXX so I'll show it by trying to hit him/her in the head with something." wtf???

All right, having finally downloaded a copy of the 07/28/02 Somerville concert, I'd like to say this:

If you are a fortyish woman with a really flat, harsh singing voice, who's had about six beers before the concert , and you're anywhere near (a) me, or (b) the bootleggers' mikes, SHUT UP. I didn't understand the problems people had with the sing-alongers until I heard this fool.

Of course "noone" says I have to read it, but how am I to muse on the stark irony of a thread until I actually do read it? I’ve yet to perfect my powers of omniscience.....

And what does the discovery of said irony have to do with whether or not I choose to read something?

When Washington Post Staff Writer David Segal says that his career as a pop-music critic has allowed him to see all manifestations of the “Concert Fool”, it’s quite obvious that he never attended a Tragically Hip gig in a small US club like The Newport (Columbus) or The Odeon (Cleveland). If he had, then his piece would surely have included the following classification:

The Frenetic Patriot -- To the casual observer, he (TFP’s are rarely female) looks and acts as if he arrived at the venue expecting to see an NHL contest in which the Leafs, Canadiens, Canucks, Oilers, Senators, or Flames are scheduled to participate. A hockey sweater and cap is the preferred garb of TFP, but his wardrobe is known to include Moosehead, Molson, and LaBatt’s t-shirts, and every ensemble is accessorized by a full-size Canadian flag. While most concert-goers tend to embrace the temporal unification of fellow enthusiasts and the performing artist, The Frenetic Patriot mysteriously seeks to distinguish himself by flaunting his nationalistic ideology. His annoyance extends beyond the distraction created by his ostentatiousness; it is known to pervade the fragile mood and atmosphere skillfully crafted by the band, thereby exhibiting a complete disrespect for the performing artist and as well as the hosting venue.

The Frenetic Patriot’s obnoxious exploits are not limited to reckless convulsions of full-body gyration that bump, bruise, and shower alcoholic beverages upon unwitting bystanders. No, TFP seems hell-bent on stripping as much enjoyment as possible from even those in the audience who are beyond splatter-and-nudge proximity. His primal bellowing of song lyrics, which are often improperly-quoted and off-key (see “The Singer”), are enough to influence notions of violent retaliation in even the most pacified of patrons, to which the least-retrained inevitably acquiesce. But beware - a reaction is all he wants, so don’t ever attempt to “teach him a lesson”; you see, TFP thinks he has been anointed as a fan of higher status, and any attack on his “Canuckship” merely martyrs his cause. Though TFP cannot be altogether avoided, his impact can be minimized by relegating yourself to the venue’s balcony or peripheral seating.

I would have thought this has been posted in the forum already, but in case it hasn't:

Hilarious stuff.

As far as personal pet peeves, I hate the dudes with no shirts. Call me a germaphobe (maybe even a homophobe), but coming into contact with a hairy, sweaty man back is not pleasant.

I hate the dudes who think they can spend 3 hours in the beer tent and then end up having the best seat in house for the main act. One guy at Sarnia Bayfest started to quiz people with Hip trivia questions in order to move up. Appartenly he was under the assumption that if the person in front of him couldn't answer the question he should be able to move in front of them.

People who crowd surf during slow songs are just tools. At Bayfest a guy asked he to "put him up". I told him, "This isn't a Sum 41 concert". He didn't seem to understand.

I dunno about #20. I guarantee you about 90% of people here break that rule whenever the Hip are touring for a new album that's been out for 2 days.

For those that don't want to go to the link, here's the rule:

20) When there's a brand new band that a lot of people seem real excited about that features ex members of other cool bands or something, and they don't have any releases out yet, just a demo, or a couple mp3's on their website or something, don't be the jackass at the front of the stage singing all the words. Yeah, yeah, we know you're the geeky super fan who likes these guys way more than everybody else. Just stop it cos you're making everybody want to vomit with your over apparent super fan enthusiasm.

Sorry. Some good ones from the rock one too. I really like this:

5) Cowboy hats are for cowboys only. That is why they are called cowboy hats. You aren't Madonna nor are you trend setting. And unless your main transportation is a horse just don't wear a cowboy hat, or you're a total poser cowboy.

18 ) Playing your guitar up by your neck makes you look like a geek. Period. If you need an example, take a cue from a few of the greats… look at Slash's guitar height, or maybe take a peek at where Duff let the bass rest, or possibly look at just how low Krist Noviselic rode his rock axe.

- Very true, but Tom Morello from Rage/Audioslave has his right under his chin and he can still rock.

24) If all of your songs are about how much you miss your girlfriend, do us all a favor and instead of touring, stay home geek.

31) Use a pick. If you play slap bass you need your fingers broken.

- Again, completely disagree. Bass slapping is wicked... but maybe that's just me.

NWOntario Wrote:-- That Guy. Courtesy PCU, "that guy" wears the shirt of the band he's seeing to the show. I've been that guy on many occasions, so he doesn't necessarily threaten me.

Every since I saw that movie (one of my favo(u)rites), I have NEVER, NEVER worn the shirt (or hat, etc...) of the band I was gonna see. Don't know why though. Confusedcratch: Its cool though, it does not bother me at all. Everytime I see one though, I think to myself "Don't be that guy" and have a little laugh.

Funny, funny stuff.
