no words... but part of me does not want to see Gord tour. He could be gone tomorrow, spend every moment you can with your family. I have my memories, that is all I need.

Kick in the gut this morning. Still trying to process. Thinking about Gord, his family and the band.

You better be dying, and you were. So we talked about time and where it went. We talked about things and where they went. It'd be a beautiful thing to see that beautiful thing, continuing.
this is the place to share this sadness. thanks for this; for this place for being here.

I agree with this. If the band and their families truly want them to be out on tour, I hope everyone (fans included) are on board if they decide to pull the plug and stop at any second. This band owes us nothing.

Some songs are really tough to listen to this morning. I ran through Day for Night shortly after the news broke...and it felt great, but "Scared" was brutal. "Ahead by a Century" and (ugh) "Fiddler's Green" will be the toughest.

I seriously doubt that, if Gord is touring, it's for any reason other than that that is what he wants to do. It suggests, to me, that this is what he loves doing, that these band-mates are people he loves, and that he wants to go down doing what he loves with people he loves. Remember, the Hip often tour with their families, so it's not as though he'll necessarily be abandoning them to hit the road.
Gord has kids. He should have had years and years left with them. And as a side note, he should have had years and years of music left to share with them and us and the world. This news is absolutely appalling on every level.
(I don't know if I'll see this tour either. It'll be a strange and painful experience...I just don't know).

I had just listened to the Hip all weekend while doing yard work and had thought to myself "Damn, Day for Night is a kick ass record, i should go back on the hipbase site and find posts on it".
Damn sad news but the Hip truly are a "Family Band". One of the bands I can share with my daughter and we used Wheat Kings last year as part of our Father/Daughter dance at her wedding.

I'll never forget the momement that Gord stopped and signed my ticket at the Syracuse show for the In Violet Light tour. He signed it "Josh is Blues". Im assuming it was reference to the Chiacgo Bears shirt I had on.

Being a "good Kingston boy" (©D. Cherry) and going to KCVI about 10 years after the boys, I always considered them "my" band, or my "family band", in Gord's terms. I might have had bands that were more my favourite, or I considered objectively better, but...the Hip were my band. I could love what they were doing, or flat-out hate what they were doing (looking at you, Now for plan A), but I'd always come back whenever I heard Gord yelling "bring out yer dead" or "uhmm...yoo hoo!" in the middle of a show, or when some random song I hadn't heard in ages popped up in itunes.
Waking up this morning and reading this...nothing could have prepared me. It really is like a family member sitting you down and telling you their bad news. Crushed. But, like one of my friends texted this morning: if nothing else, at least Gord will get to see just how loved and appreciated in this country. It's not much, but it's something.
