What's gotten into these guys?
Absolutely mashing the ball.

^ Honestly I think a lot of credit has to go to the coaching. Having Cito as manager is like having a second hitting coach, and Gene Tenace is a pretty good hitting coach to begin with. We started to see some improvement after they took over midway through last season, but now that they've had a full spring with the guys it's really starting to pay dividends. With the young players in particular, you see them in the dugout talking to the manager before every at bat, something that was never done with John Gibbons and whoever his various hitting coaches. Granted we're only 11 games into the season, and haven't played an AL East opponent yet, but it's nice to see the Jays at the top of the standings!
I don't think anyone expects them to be able to hit enough all season to make up for the inexperienced pitching staff, but they should be fun to watch nonetheless.

Yeah, I doubt they can sustain the gaudy offensive numbers, but then again, I didn't think Tampa could sustain the pitching they were getting early last year...and we know how that turned out.
The back end Toronto's rotation is a major concern, but if they're going to be putting up 7+ runs a game, then I think
I could get a few wins as their 5th starter.

The scary thing about all of this is that the one guy who hasn't been hitting well is arguably their most talented player...Alex Rios!! The jays scored over 20 runs in the past 2 games and he was 0-9.

BJ Ryan :censored :censored :censored :censored suuuuuuuuccccccckkkkkkksssssssssssss!!!!!!
He is no longer a major league caliber pitcher. His fastball barely touches 87mph and that's the only pitch he has besides a slider. I don't know why the Jays keep using him. Well I do know why, it's because they're paying him the second most amount of money for a closer in the league. The man is jeopardizing every game he enters. I'm a realist and I know there's not a very good chance the Jays will be in the hunt at the ends of the season, but if they are, the few games that BJ is costing them may really come back and haunt them. They have enough solid arms in the pen to replace Scott Downs as the set up man, and then they could move the much more competent Downs to the closer position.

no kiddin they gotta quit givin bj chances, it's just about as nervous if not more so than when miguel batista was our closer :nooooo

I actually wouldn't mind seeing Jason Frasor as the closer and leave Downs as the setup guy. Frasor's got an amazing fastball and based on last night performance, his off speed stuff's not too shabby either.

I wouldn't mind seeing them bring Tom Henke or Duane Ward out of retirement either, anyone would be an improvement over BJ Ryan.

I don't think Frasor has the temperament for real high pressure situations. He pitches best when he knows there's someone else there like Downs, Accardo or Ryan to pull his arse out of it.

Well, our wish has been granted...BJ's on the DL and Downs did a wonderful job of closing out the game yesterday. Kinda sucks that Romero was also put on the DL yesterday, he's been amazing so far.

Wow, what a game!! Bay with some insanely good catches, and a 2 run jack in the bottom of the 9th to send it to extras and then YOOOOOOOOOUK with the walkoff dinger to win the game.
And then the Jays destroying the White Sox by 2 touchdowns.. great night in baseball, with the Habs out now, I couldn't be happier baseball is back.
