Still a little early.. but quite possible if he continues playing like he has thus far. He's a complete player, the physical side he's shown has been amazing.. the best hockey of his career IMO.
Alfredsson had an awesome hit from behind last night. It was truly a special play.

Yeah, and?
If you've watched his play this playoffs, you'd see he's done a bit more than that.
Leave it to you to add a comment like that..

I believe that he was referring to the hit on Tallinder that was particularly brutal. Pushing somebody's head hard against the glass with two fists and a stick isn't something to cheer about. He's lucky he didnt fracture Tallinder's skull with that vicious, uncalled for hit.

Yes, I saw the game and know what he was referring to. Who's cheering about that?
Again.. if you've seen the other nearly dozen games, you'd notice how well he's played. One hit doesn't change that.

Plus, Alfie probably wasn't far from hitting the nail on the head when he implied Tallinder was fakin' it. The diving and whining on the Buffalo bench isn't exactly a secret.

the fact that in this "new" NHL, Alfie can get away with a hit like that, but yet the slightest touch of a stick to a player is 2 minutes..hell, half the time the stick doesn't even touch the player...it's a fucking joke...the NHL has it all backwards

He did get away with it, but I'm sure if you did a league wide tally you'd find that way more hooking and high sticking calls are missed than are checks from behind. The mock outrage about the hit by Alfie from Buffalo fans and anti-Ottawa fans really is too much.

i'm neither a buffalo fan, nor an ottawa fan..it should have been a penalty..plain and simple..and if i did a league wide tally, i'd probably find that there were a lot of "hooking" calls that shouldn't have been penalties at all

second_sight_kyle - 05-13-2007
Right but in that case you can't even compare a bad hooking call to a bad checking from behind call, since the latter doesn't exist (a check from behind being more obvious than a hook). So he should have gotten a penalty, but a missed call on this is completely different from a bad call on a hook. In terms of missed calls (the priorities of different penalties), the NHL doesn't have it backwards. In terms of the quality of calls that are made (such as a shitty hooking call), there could be improvement. In conclusion, Sens in 4.

Mind if I perform a little experiment? Let's see if you can "fake" the effects of having your head driven into the glass. I agree that the refs are calling more and more bogus hooking calls, but for Alfredsson to imply that Tallinder was faking is just pure unadulterated bullshit, plain and simple.

I prefer my experiment, where I examine how many calls of similar aggression and equal potential damage were left uncalled. A cross check into the kidneys of Mike Fisher with about six minutes left (when he didn't have the puck, standing in the slot) was something I found quite proposterous myself.
I'm not sure that any difference exists between the two (except, of course, that the cross-check eliminated a scoring opportunity), and if anybody wishes to provide that Alfredsson is a 'dirty' player, I wish you the best.
Also, I don't quite follow you here. It's impossible to "fake" the effects of having your head driven into the glass? Rolling around on the ice in agony would be a start; take a minute or two to recapture your balance. Insist on a visit to the dressing room, but return unscathed two minutes later... yeah, that would be a start. I'm not suggesting that this is the case, but I think we can agree that this type of behaviour exists, and quite frequently at that. Yeah, "pure, unadulterated bullshit" exists on the ice, plain and simple.

If you look at the replay of the incident, I don't see how any reasonable person could believe that Tallinder was faking being hurt. Alfredsson reached out with both hands and shoved his head into the glass. Maybe he didnt do it intentionally, but for him to suggest that he was faking is just pure class on his part. Alfredsson's just lucky he didnt fracture Tallinder's skull with that hit. This is the second time that I'm aware of that Ottawa has blindsided Buffalo players and shrugged it off as whining. At least this time, Tallinder was in the vicinity of the puck.

I am a Buffalo fan. (just had to tell you were my mind is)
And actually, I do not think the hit was dirty. Just unfortunate that the close check from behind came when he bent his body a little. Stuff happens.

Well the more I watch it the more I'm wondering how it was missed. Wasn't the official very close?

Says a Senators fan. The Senators and Sabres are on pretty even terms as far as diving and whining. They are tied for first in the NHL in that department and the #2 team is a distant second.
It's not like this is the first time Alfie has hit someone dirty. He's a repeat offender as far as hitting guys from behind. To not even get a penalty on the play? WOW! He should feel lucky he didn't get a 1 game suspension. Alfie is a punk. Everyone outside of Ottawa knows it.
