I went crazy at HMV after work tonight. Not only did I pick up both the CD and vinyl of NFPA, but I also bought the new Dinosaur Jr. and Cuff the Duke CDs. And to top it all off, I arrived home to find the new Patterson Hood CD in my mailbox from Amazon. It's a great day for new music!

Yep, snagged my copy at Barnes and Noble in Ann Arbor!

Just curious if there are any differences with the Umusic release and the Zoe/Rounder release.
There have been subtle differences in the past - like one of Gords solo albums had changes.

My NFPA CD is red - is the Umusic release red also.
My case is cardboard.

My Umusic version is red, with a cardboard sleeve.

Thanks - I was just curious
And it looks like the Vinyl release is Canada only right now

Just spinning the vinyl for the first time, as I type. First impression...much quieter than the WATS Back to Black piece of crap. Remember, this vinyl is cut from the digital master, so it shouldn't sound much different than the CD, depending on your source, of course.

Re: Now For Plan A - Oct 2, 2012 - 11 tracks - The Darkest Canuck - 10-04-2012

Just listened to this for the first time, right now, and my god, what a brilliant album. From start to finish I enjoyed every second of it, and I started it over right away as soon as it finished. I love all of their albums, and it's getting harder and harder to rank them, with there being so many of them now, and my tastes changing slightly over time. That being said, I think this is my favourite since IBE for sure, and perhaps my favourite since IVL or even M@W.

The guitar work on this album is incredible, the rythm section sounds great, Gord's vocals are at the top of his game, and i just really love how it sounds live-off-the-floor. Listening to it with my eyes closed, i can envision myself sitting at the bar in some dive, having my mind completely blown by this killer band. Song after song, the highs and the lows, the sheer power of their rock, yet all the while with a certain finesse (and grace too Wink).

There are very few bands out there today, or ever, that have the ability to take me on a journey through my own mind, and capture my imagination the way that the tragically hip do, and that my friends, is why i will always be a fan. Even if i thought their next album was shit, it wouldn't matter, i'd give it as many listens as it took to grow, and if not, i'd just put it away, wait for the next one, and save it for a rainy day.

 *edit* It was twice as nice the second time around baby!

This is the first Tragically Hip album I am not going to buy.

You know that is fine and it is different for everyone but I think you are the minority here I think it is some of their better work and much better that WATS that I barely listen to except for a couple of tracks...I think you missing out but I would not buy something I did not like either...

I mean, no tracks on here even approach the brilliance of Coconut Cream, but it's a great album nonetheless.

All joking aside, however, I haven't enjoyed a Hip release this much since, it seems to me, 'In Violet Light'.

Solid.

Re: Now For Plan A - Oct 2, 2012 - 11 tracks - chris - 10-04-2012

This is the first Hip album since Phantom Power that doesn't have a track on it that I don't like. There are some on NFPA that I like less, but the key is that I like them all. Especially We Want To Be It. And Attawapiskat.

Re: Now For Plan A - Oct 2, 2012 - 11 tracks - fingernailsonhull - 10-04-2012

I'm tracking with chris chris.

We Want To Be It and Goodnight Attawapiskat are my two immediate favourites. I'm also digging Now For Plan A and About This Map. It's a solid disc.

By the way Chris, looks like you recently passed the ten year mark on the Base. Congrats.
