As pathetic an effort as that was last night by the Leafs, with 3 games to go they still completely control their own destiny. Win them all and they're in, simple as that. A one-game playoff between the Leafs and Habs on Saturday is certainly an intriguing possibilty, and I don't think the fans of either team could ask for anything more. Let's just hope the Leafs regain their focus after last night and take care of business against the Flyers and Isles first to make it happen.

If it came down to the very last game, with the Habs still 1 point up on the Leafs, the Leafs would have to win the game in regulation time.. as a win in OT or SO would still leave them on the outside lookin' in.

Yes, I failed to make that distinction, but it doesn't change the fact that they control their own destiny. Win the next two, and then beat the Habs in regulation, and they're in.

Although, Lamoriello's fired coaches of first place teams late in the season before and won a Cup with the decision. (Ftorek replaced with Robinson in 1999-2000).

Yep the Leafs control their own destiny (as does Montreal). Yes, the Hurricanes still have an outside shot at making the playoffs, but the Islanders are all but finished. They are playing horrible, and are 4 points back & would still have to overtake 3 teams.

And the Devils fired Julien??? WTF! I didn't see that coming Skippy!

Devils head coaches have never had much job security despite their winning records, I think this is about 11 coaching changes in the last 12 years. The timing does make you wonder, with them having won 4 of their last 5, but I guess Crazy Lou decided they'll do better in the playoffs if he's behind the bench himself.

I'm not certain but I think that Lou fires coaches for looking him in the eye.

Maybe there was something that was going on behind the scenes in the Devils organization, because thir firing doesn't make sense to me at all...first in Atlantic, won 4 of the last 5.

Something had to have happened, how can you let a coach lead the team to the last week of the season and then just dump him and the owner takes the team into the playoffs, what a slap in the face to Julien. I hope he got a nice pay-off.

I haven't read/heard much on the Julien front yet, but I did catch a few minutes of Hockey Central & Mike Brophy mentioned that he was told there might of been a rift between Martin Broduer & Claude Julien.

Game #7 tonight between the PEI Rocket & Acadie-Bathurst Titan (QMJHL), it should be a good one! I'm going to miss a huge night in the NHL tonight though, but I'll record the Rangers/Islanders game (a Rangers win + a Habs win eliminates the Islanders!!) & watch it when i get home.

Leafs keep pace with the Habs, as McCabe redeems himself for Philly's tying goal late in the 3rd by scoring the OT winner. The Canes are officially out of it, meaning for the first time in history both Stanley Cup finalists from the previous year failed to make the playoffs. And that Brodeur guy picked up win #47 to tie the record, in a shootout no less.

The Islanders came preciously close to being eliminated tonight as well. Had they lost the shootout, they were eliminated. They won it though, keeping them alive for another day.

As long as the Leafs can win Thursday night (or have Montreal lose), then it's going to come down to Saturday night on HNIC

And the PEI Rocket game tonight was superb! What a entertaining game! Unforunately for us Rocket fans, the Titan won the game in Overtime, winning the game 4-3 & the series 4-3

Definitely not the Flames' best effort tonight. The crap officiating from McGough certainly didn't help, especially when he handed Colorado a 5 on 3 for a full two minutes in the 2nd period (the turning point in the game). Thanks Mick! What a huge night for Sakic though. Ya gotta give the guy props for taking that team on his back the way he has. On a positive note, the Flames still have 3 games to get that elusive playoff spot locked up. All they need is one win and Colorado officially dies. Please guys, just get it done! This team is giving me a freakin' heart attack.

GO FLAMES!!!
