I made a very similar choice recently (Exchange Sam for Wintersleep)...

Half Moon Run. They blew me away at Bluesfest this year and their first two albums are phenomenal.

If I could do all three I would! But forced to make a selection, I'd go with HMR.

Tickets go on sale this Friday for John K. Samson's tour supporting his new record, Winter Wheat. I'm planning on hitting up the Vancouver show on Feb. 2nd.

Saw Jason this week in Vermont -- holy smokes. I really liked his contribution to DBT, and they're never been the same without him while his last two solo albums are easily in my top 10 of all time (and I hope to live many more decades). Would never have been enough room for him in DBT as the third song writer and guitar player. Live takes it to a whole new level. I knew he was a good guitar player, but he makes it look effortless.

This video is what I would use to introduce Isbell to anyone who's not familiar with him. Terrific solo.

It's a great venue - good sound and small, but yeah was an odd crowd. I'm mid40s and felt like a youngster. I did find the crowd was appreciative, at least where I was seated. He isn't really DBT rowdy, healthy dose of depressing song topics. I had sort of expected a quieter night based on the theater and audience.

Here's a great vid from this tour filmed in Boston...crowd was crazy. Maybe it was becasue they were filming?

I saw Ryan Adams at the Flynn and we were up for 90% of the show.

For that show I have one of the loge boxes and I am taking my kids - they like Joel.

I've seen none of them. There was a time in my life when i'd go see every show coming to town but I need to grow up and spend money wisely eventually.

Sam Roberts versus Arkells is a tough one. I like Sam Roberts' music more (be in my top 10), Arkells have got maybe a bit poppy for me at times. But for live energy they may have the edge, Max can really work a crowd. On the other hand, SRB will blow you away just for pure musicianship.

Have not seen Half Moon Run, or really heard them beyond a song or two -- I know they sell out quick when they play around here.
