Gord had already cemented himself into the Canadian music lexicon, but boy he sure finished it all of with an exclamation point.

This. This, this, this. I still can't believe how that final chapter played out - from the tour to the last show to the two solo albums to the national outpouring of grief on October 18. It still hurts, a lot, but I'm so grateful for that final tour and for how Gord lived the final two years of his life. What a hero.

Hard to believe it's been 2 years already. Man, where does the time go? It still feels like all of this happened yesterday.

And as the general population's public grief fades away, it's comforting to come to this forum and read fresh and impassioned posts about what drove and drives us all, Gord's brilliant and enduring music.

In the last few months I've picked a guitar back up after not playing for about 20 years. I'm pretty good on Wheat Kings, Nautical Disaster, The Rock, The Last Recluse, Trick Rider, and Chancellor. It's super therapeutic to play and sing.

Crater ( Gord + The Sadies ) shuffled into play while riding yesterday and reminded me once again of all the beautiful art he gave us

Still struggling with it...as all of this group is

2 weeks ago in Peterborough there was at a Downie/Wenjack fundraiser and The Sadies were the headliners. The last time they played this little theatre was with Gord in 2014 and the first song they played then was a blisteringly awesome version of Crater. That was such a great show. This one was bittersweet. They best part of this one for me was that Gord's brothers and his sister were there - partying, dancing and having a great time. It was Partick's 50th birthday too. A wonderful night...and Gord's presence was definitely felt.

I've been playing pretty much for the last 20 years but while the Hip has always made up quite a bit of what I play, I hadn't really learned anything past Phantom Power. My goal has been to attempt to learn as much of the catalogue as possible and have added a bunch of songs I never bothered to learn to play (like Evelyn and Werewolf), as well as a bunch from M@W onward. While I still play other stuff, I'm happiest when I'm playing any and everything Hip.

I don't know if I've ever told this story, but here goes.

On October 17, 2017 my ex messaged me. She's a teacher at a private school south of Calgary. They'd arranged for Mike Downie to do a Wenjack workshop for the kids. They'd been building up to it for weeks, and they'd paid for his flights, accommodation...everything. And then he cancelled the morning prior, saying something had come up. She sent me that message, wondering whether it was about Gord, and I said nah, no way. Later that day I was at my doctor's, and in the washroom afterwards bumped into one of the band's managers who I'd met during the 2016 tour. We chatted, I asked him to wish Gord and the band well, and that was that. The next day I understood very, very dramatically why he looked so utterly exhausted...I mean, it's not like I knew him by any means, but you can sorta tell when someone's hanging on, y'know?

I will never forget those two days.

Edited to say: I don't know when I became a Sherpa, but fuck yeah!

Sounds like playing in a Hip tribute band is in your future. Once you've got that crowd-pleaser 'Werewolf' nailed you'll be packing bars!

Just saw this on Twitter and it got me all choked up. The band has left Gord's boots sitting in front of his mic stand at their Bathouse rehearsal space.

Not sure if this had been posted or not, but they had a small open house party at the bathouse recently, and Alan cross took some pics:

Analogue until it hits the HDD, maybe, meaning all the 'control' is analogue and the post mix/master is Pro Tools.
