If they want more interest in the All-Star game, they should make it worth something. Like the MLB - Home Field Advantage for the World Series.

I don't find anything exciting about the All Star game at all. In fact, it annoys me more than anything because it takes time out of the regular season. They play at about 75% speed, with about 50% effort.

I don't think the owners would be terribly keen on making the game worth something. Imagine how Ted Leonis would feel if Ovechkin broke his leg in an effort to help some other team from the East get home ice advantage for the Cup final.

I always enjoy watching the Skills Competition, and i really liked the 1st NHL Young Stars game they had. There was loads of young talent in that original game with guys like Ilya Kovalchuk, Brad Richards, Henrik Zetterberg, etc. However i thought the 2nd Young Stars game was a disaster, and there really weren't very top flight prospects in that game. This years could be fun to watch again though with guys like Evgeni Malkin...and well i haven't actually seen the rosters but given the young talent in the league the past 2 years, they should be good.

As for the all-star game itself, i watch it every year. I'll never miss it & would be very disappointed if they stopped having it...even though yeah, it never is really much of a game and isn't the most exciting thing to watch.

And i don't think the break is necessarily a bad thing for the players. A team like Anaheim i'd imagine are welcoming it with open arms. It should be good too for a guy like Jaromir Jagr to have a few days off as he's battling a slight groin injury at the moment, and his shoulder is still bothering him.

How good has Alexander Semin been this season! Man this kid is on fire right now, 10 goals in the last 7 games. I watched some of the Caps game last night, and this guy has some shot! 27 goals now on the season, really his 1st in the NHL. I'm starting to regret not taking him in my hockey pool now. We were down to the 18th and final round...i was sitting at the same table as Mike and i was down to either Fedorov or Semin...i ended up taking Fedorov and then encouraged Mike to grab Semin, which he did. I'm still satisfied with Fedorov's production thus far, but Semin has as many goals as Sergei has points!

i find that a bit of a farce though...what, 90 per cent of the players in the game aren't even gonna be in the world series? (and most probably know it at the time of the game.)

not sure how to explain it, but the only reason the baseball all-star game is watchable (and others aren't) is cuz baseball doesn't require that sort of "contact intensity."

baseball is basically a one-on-one endeavor...and if you decide, hey, i'm not gonna go balls out cuz it's an all-star game, then, well what? i'm not gonna swing hard? or bend over for that ground ball? ya can't really not do that...it's effortless...the intensity in baseball is mostly mental so ya can't really "turn off" the effort front.

Went down to the Canucks-Sabres game last night...it was quite disappointing to get to the rink and find that Luongo wasn't starting, and after the first goal I thought it would be a bloodbath. Turned out to be a great game though. I gotta give the Canucks a lot of credit for the way they turned things around to start the 2nd period. The Sabres completely dominated the 1st and it was the opposite in the 2nd. Somebody must have said something in the Canucks' dressing room during the first intermission that got them going. In the 3rd the Sabres really started to take control again, but Sabourin made several spectacular saves to keep them in it. I still think Vancouver would've won had Luongo played, but with that 3rd period Sabourin proved that he is a very capable back-up.

Also the officiating was brutal...more than a few calls that were pretty sketchy. But at least the bad calls were fairly well balanced between both teams. And what's the deal with the Sabres' powerplay? Do they normally suck that much?

23rd in the league at 16%.....so yes!

Yea its really unbelievable how awful the sabres powerplay has been this seaon. We need Timmy Connolly back in the worst way!
