My girlfriend really doesn't listen to the greatest music IMO in general, but recently, i got her into not only The hip, but Tenacious D as well! She likes The D better than the hip, but that's fine with me...she's really taking a liking to World Container...especially Ocean for some reason...
my other girlfriend doesn't get it...

My ex girlfriend completley hated the hip. She went to a couple concerts with me and bashed them all the time. Her band was Finger Eleven. Alright band but nothing compared to the hip's live show.
In the end, I couldn't deal with her dissing them everytime I threw in a cd. I dumped the bitch.
If your woman doesn't like the hip, that's one thing. But as long as she respects your liking for them, than she's a good girl.

On the drive home from the Fort York show, night 2, the girl and I had a good talk about her not getting the band. She's tried, the poor thing, and she just can't do it. Doesn't like hockey either, truth be told.
Are these enough to send me over the edge -- hell no, in fact, I'm gonna marry the girl (as I said, poor thing -- she deserve a medal for saying yes).
In High Fidelity, Rob (I think) says it's not what you're like but what you like. I'm not sure if I believe this. Everyone I dated who had very similar tastes in "art" to me I ended up hating.
I guess what I'm getting at, wait at least until she says that she doesn't get Dylan or Neil -- then there's cause for concern.

I use to hate the hip ,, and look at me now. I can remember hearing songs like courage and locked in the trunk of a car at the age of 13,,, and thinking,,, if there's one band that I can't stand,,, it's Tragically Hip. Then at 17, I met Lance. He dragged me to a concert a few months later, and we had a really fun time together. The rest is history I guess. I REALLY Love them now.
If your girl is open to things she THINKS she hates then anything can happen.
Lance THOUGHT he hated cheesecake and broccoli (among many other foods), however since he was willing to try them,,, they are now his favourite desert and veggie. Whoda Thunk?
Personality means more then musical tastes.

Though, I do sort of get what you're saying...it is a tad male dominated 'round these here parts.
