Thanks guys, This thread has become really interesting.
Personally, I can definitely see both sides of the story. When I was younger, and listening to heavier music more often, the gig experience was all about moshing. As I've gotten older though, and my tastes have changed I don't really want that from a gig. I think one of the major factors has been the rapid improvement in Cameras and personal Recording Equiptment has meant that its easy to get really great band photos and audio/visual recordings which I really enjoy.
I have no problem with people who want to mosh etc (although, crowd sufing is a little different as it's difficult to see them coming - and being tall I often fall foul of wayward feet and hands. However, crowd surfing is banned at many venues over here). If moshpits kick off now, I tend to just move to the side so I can watch the band. I definitely prefer standing though - I always find there to be more atmosphere.

I WILL BE AT THE HAMILTON SHOW BUT IM USUALLY THE ONE GETTING BEER SPILLED ON ME THESE DAYS(LOL).I JUST REMEMBER THE MOLSON PARK DAYS OF BATTLING TO GET TO THE FRONT ONLY TO GET A BOOT IN THE HEAD FROM SOME CRAZY ASS SURFER!NOW I PICK AND CHOOSE MY SPOTS!FRONT ROW AT THE PHOENIX TAKES THE CAKE!

If moshing and kicking and elbowing is so cool, why do you have to pick and choose your spot? Wouldn't it be cool to be anywhere, since the violence is acceptable in your eyes. Just because the Hip shows used to be rougher doesn't mean a thing. It was wrong back then and it's wrong today. Any person with any sense of decency and respect would avoid doing bodily harm to another person at a concert. It's called being a decent human being.

that better!sorry to make you feel! just dont know how personal attacks have anything to do with the conversation! 11 died in cincinatti because of g.a. its partly the venue,security and the bands responsability as well as the patrons to keep it safe! ive been to 200 concerts and never moshed(lol).different strokes for different folks! doesnt mean the music is shit or the person there is shit! i just know what to expect and being 6-5 260, im prepared for anything.like i said these days im usually the 1 people look to including my 5-4 fiance for stabilaty in a crazy crowd! p.s-i dont like to hurt people!

ya, i'm not saying that moshing is for everyone, or that it isn't dangerous (typically though nobody gets hurt and all involved have a good time), what i'm saying is that people who don't mosh DO NOT have the right to portray those who do as lesser fans, or "idiots"...just because they have a different idea of what having a good time is? c'mon, i thought we were supposed to be all about acceptance and tolerance here in the 21st century...perhaps i was mistaken.

The moshing is ok ...just as you want people to respect your right to mosh its not unfair to give the other fans around you the same consideration and respect. We all want to have fun and see the band !
