Seeing as the Toronto franchise has been playing hockey in the NHL for the better part of 80 consecutive years is it not reasonable to assume that they would have the lionshare of National fanfare, shared with the Habs (who btw also get exclusive Saturday night coverage on the French CBC) thus garnering the most viewers??? Is that not the goal of televsion...to get the most viewers???
Toronto also happens to be the Corporate Headquarters of the CBC, standing a mere 1.5 km to the North of the Air Canada Centre.
Also, don't feel bad for those viewers in the Ottawa area, they more often than not get to see their Senators in action every Saturday on HNIC unless the game is under a blackout.

Then after the Eastern game is over there is ALWAYS a Western Canadian team featured in the 7:00 pm PST game, so you've got a 1 in 3 chance of hitting your favourite squad there.

And if you still haven't got your fill of Candian Hockey, and your hometown team still hasn't made their way into your Saturday night there is always the NHL Center Ice package which is now available coast to coast...talk to Opiated he'll hook you up with the cost details.

And as far as the Texas thing goes...I've gotta go with the Albertans as well...although they don't walk around with the same bravado and swagger as Texans do...thankfully Albertans don't have fully-loaded arsenals of weaponry in their pickup trucks either.

Thanks Goulet, for speaking the truth! Like it or not, there are more Leaf fans around than any team (with the possible exception of Hab fans), and Hockey Night In Canada featuring the Leafs is a tradition, an institution not to be messed with.

Hey, I admit, I love watching the Flames, Oilers and Canucks as much as I can, they are talented teams who are a lot of fun to watch... and they get a lot of chances to be the second half of the HNIC doubleheader, so that's pretty good in my book. But take the Leafs off of Saturday nights? Over my (and a lot of other people's) dead body! :rambo:

Sounds like the center of the universe to me :lol: ....I'd even be happy with the 1 in three chance you're talking about with the western teams, that would mean the most exciting team in the east would make it every once in a while (Ottawa I mean) but every damn week watching Quinn and the other old men bitching about everything is just too much

speaking of hockey on tv, being a Habs fan is good depending on where you live, we have RDS(french TSN), all 82 games are on tv, and this year, new feature they have is Canadiens Express, an hour after the games, they show the abbreviated version, no commercials, no waiting for faceoffs, it's 60 minutes of hockey, pretty cool when you miss the game or want to see a game in fast forward sort of

as for Canada's Texas, Alberta, nothing against Alberta, but it is full of money, cowboys, oil

So rich that each resident is gonna get 400$ or so, every resident of the province, either 2 years old or 100 years old

I know what Brisket is. The greatest meat on earth smoked, pulled, and drenched in, that's right -- barbecue sauce.

So I'd say 'BBQ' is whatever the hell kind of meat you want to barbecue.

Except in the Carolinas, where you apparently are only allowed to BBQ a pig.

I'd say that's a little 'exclusionary', but then again, they still fly a confederate flag over the S.C. capitol, so I suppose that's par for the course....

Well...I agree that Montreal and Toronto get most of the national fanfare, but let's try and look a little closer at the "big picture". I live in Saskatchewan, and obviously do not have a home province team to cheer for. I am a Montreal Canadiens fan and would appreciate the chance to watch them play on a national, English broadcast against someone other than the Leafs.
When I watch the late game, I get a pretty good variety of Canucks, Flames and Oilers games, and I don't mind watching any of them. But when it comes to the early game, it's all Leafs, all the time...I live in Saskatchewan remember, who decided that the Leafs are the only team we're interested in watching here? Surely the ratings in Western Canada wouldn't fall that far if on the odd occassion only Ontario got the Leafs?

Toronto Dominates the HNIC Schedule, and there's a good split between Edmonton, Calgary, and Vancouver the rest of the way, if we debate that there are 3 teams in the east, then of course Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa get broadcast in their region, but why is there no "regional" coverage of the western teams? Why can't I watch a Calgary game from the east, and then a western game. Anyways back to another point about guns.

I was laughing when I heard that they wanted to ban hand guns, well what a joke! Obviously this is a ploy to round up votes from Ontario! What a slap in the face for us! By no means am I for hand guns, but there is no need for such law here in Alberta. And I thought it was a FEDERAL ELECTION. Ontario reresents most of the votes, but doesn't represent all of the opinion.

And that's correct we have our share of cowboys.

And why do Ontario, and Alberta have a little dislike for each other, perhaps a lot of Albertan's used to live in Ontario, and got out, and Ontarian's wish they could have done the same?

And now, back to the original topic...what exactly is Texas BBQ? This may be a little off the point, but it seems to me there is a fundamental difference between Canadians and Americans when it comes to the use of this word.

In Canada the word can be a noun ("I bought a new BBQ" or "my friend invited me to a BBQ"), but the word is typically used to describe the cooking process itself ("I'm going to BBQ some steaks tonight" or "I ate 4 BBQ'ed burgers for supper"). Makes sense to me...but down in the states (especially the south) they talk a little different. The image that comes to mind is a redneck Texan saying "did everyone get enough BBQ". What type of meat is "BBQ"??? What animal does it come from??? In conclusion, the American usage is wrong!

Ontario is Canada's Texas in terms of attitude.. in my opinion

if you're talking about the "centre of the universe mentality", nothing beats our Upper Canadian friends in Ontario (and especially Toronto... no offense)

Alberta shares the Texan culture though, in a gentler way... cowboys, oil, and beef wrapped in a maple leaf

Dude! If you've never had real Texas/Southern U.S. BBQ, you're missing out! It can be any kind of beef, ribs, chicken, turkey, pork, or sausage that's slow cooked/smoked/BBQ'ed over an open pit or in a big-ass smoker. It also HAS to be accompanied by some real Texas BBQ sauce which is a cross between our BBQ sauce and beef gravy - very fatty - very good. You should see the rigs some Texans have to tailgate with at Texas Longhorns and Houston Texans games. They're unbelievable. I saw one smoker/BBQ in the parking lot at Reliant Stadium that was at least 20 feet long and had 2 axles. I've ordered their BBQ sauce in the past.

Blesser is right. Ontario is the Canadian centre of the universe - or so we Ontarians tend to think, anyway. I love it when the Liberals try to pass off the Conservatives as a regional party. The Liberals always win the vast majority of their seats in Ontario - much like the Tories win the vast majority of their seats out west. The Liberals are just as "regional" as the Tories, we just don't put it that way because we're from Ontario.
