Well, this really does beat the Dr. Broom incident here at McGill..ooh doctor broom, thank god there were no pictures of you...

PS - Quebec girls are hotter :-p

Happy Holidays, and to all students - Good luck on exams!

I don't think there is a video. I have received the email a dozen times or so and it has only contained pictures. I think that any mention of a video is incorrect. I will ask my chums on campus and see what 'the word' is. Maybe i have just been missing out.

I suppose this "scandal" has made people take their focus off of McGill, or forget that incident somewhat. But I think the "dr. broom" incident is MUCH worse then what happened at Western. Whereas a consenting female stripped for some guys in a private room, and pictures were circulated on the internet, at McGill a student (or students?) were sodomized with a broom. In this case the participants were unwilling and unconsenting, or were otherwise coerced, with the possibility of not making the team if they didnt participate.

The pictures are definitely embarassing for the girl, but they really have nothing to do with the school. And I am not arguing that the MCGill incident was school sanctioned, but there is a definite difference in the two incidents.

My two cents anyway.

I agree with Lee; it's terrible that this was brought into mainstream conversation by the media. And things like this have certainly gone on in other residences (like mine at Ryerson); the only difference is that now the technology and ability to distribute information quickly spreads this kind of story so much more quickly, and to so many more people.

I feel terrible for the girl(s) involved as they were just having a good time...

So terrible that you hooked us up with a link to the pics.

Now if we can only find the supposed video!

Fair enough, but I wouldn't have known about it if it weren't for The Star publishing the story... which is, in my opinion, what is causing the suffering for the girl(s) involved... and by extension, why I feel for them.

Secondly, why does everyone keep suggesting that there is a video?

ha ha ha..I thought the same thing. If you ask me, she was total pro way before that dorm room show...any girl who owns a plastic naughty nurses outfit knows what she is getting into.

She might not have known that it was going to be broadcast online.

I find the whole thing strange. Why would a young woman, priveleged enough to be attending university, feel the need to strip, even in a private show? I haven't clicked on the links - since I'm at work and, in any case, I can see a naked woman any time I want - but I get the impression from your comments that she was at a party of 'friends.' She wasn't a professional stripper or anything, was she?

The whole Girls Gone Wild video nonsense strikes me as something that a generation of women are going to sorely regret. And yes, I've read the whole "stripping is empowering and sexually liberating" arguments but they don't make sense to me. Ofcourse, I'm neither powerless nor sexually repressed so maybe that has something to do with it.

I think we need to see lofty's email

- skippy the wonder dog - 12-14-2005

The harm done here was not done by the media, which did not disseminate the pictures or identify the girl. It was done by other students, who did both things. If she can't show her face in public, its because her face was disseminated by email. What the Star published doesn't harm her reputation; it's the snickering when her peers recognize her in English 20 that does her in.

(And that, it can well be argued, is news: a cautionary tale for idiots everywhere.)

I don't feel terrible for the girl. Call me an unsympathetic lout, but she made her bed, and now she has to sleep in it. I'm not going to gush with sympathy over the self-inflicted wounds of those who score so high on the dumb-meter that they break the needle.

To Sam's point, if stripping is empowering and sexually liberating, well, I guess she should feel empowered and sexually liberated.

If, on the other hand, she feels humiliated and ashamed, then I suggest she spend the remainder of her academic career as witlessly drunk as she was that night. After all, she wasn't feeling any shame then.

- Sam - 12-14-2005

What I wouldn't give for a trend of young, college men getting witless drunk and being encouraged to strip on video so that it can be shared with countless one-handed viewers. Sexual objectification should be a two-way street, don't you think?

It should be, but generally speaking, it's not. Men and women are different. We guys get turned on by simply looking at or even thinking about women. I'm not saying women aren't attracted to the male form, I'm just saying that there is a much greater demand for these sorts of things among men. This is why objectification tends to be a one-way street. Sigh.

I haven't the faintest idea what you're talking about.

I think I'm most baffled by this girl thinking that allowing pictures was somehow a good idea.

I mean hey, if you are so desperate for attention that you feel the need to get naked with a bunch of guys at rez, that's one thing. But to allow pictures? How is that a good idea under any circumstances? Was she trying to get back at an ex-boyfriend? Is she unaware of the Internet and email? Or is she just incredibly stupid?
