I've had it for a week or so here, I've been a big OLP fan since Clumsy, Gravity was the worst thing they ever did(wasn't horrible, but it was very bad compared to what they can do, Bob Rock made it too mainstream)

For the new record, some of the songs are a bit mainstream but they are different, that's what I like about OLP, the music sounds different than most mainstream, modern rock bands

That's my opinion for now

Angels/Losing/Sleep is my favorite so far. I am also a big fan of Wipe That Smile Off Your Face.

I bought the DualDisc format so I am going to check out the DVD side soon. Overall I am really liking this album!!

j-monster Wrote:I actually liked Spiritual Machines... they approached and made that disc in exactly the opposite way they and Bob Rock have made their last two. They made it quickly without over-thinking it too much, they had a real theme and purpose, and they took chances with their songs.

Agreed. I liked that album. It was different. The video for the single was pretty cool too, even though they completely ripped off Radiohead.

Rolling Stone Wrote:On their new album, "Healthy in Paranoid Times," OUR LADY PEACE take aim against President Bush with the scathing track, "Wipe That Smile Off Your Face." "Lyrically, Our Lady Peace has often been a bit on the ambiguous side, kind of tried to keep things universal," frontman RAINE MAIDA told Rolling Stone. "If Clear Channel doesn't want to play a fucking song because it has lyrics about Bush, then too bad." The first single from "Healthy" will be "Where Are You," a plea for harmony inspired by Maida's recent humanitarian missions to Iraq and Darfur.

Great, now Raine Maida thinks he's Bono. Someone make him stop before he hurts himself.

Oh, that Raine Maida is such a rebel. tsk tsk. Raine has in some way or another always wanted to be Bono, which IMO isn't a very honourable thing to strive to be.

Especially when Chris Martin already beat him to the punch. Wink

Hmmm... there's a Jonestown joke in there (!), but we'll leave it for now. Given the state of New Orleans today - amongst other world issues - humanitarian efforts could use a momentary break from cynicism.

I decided to buy the new CD, and am glad I did. The new CD is better than Gravity, though not sure I would compare it to anything earlier than that. Of course, I've said that about a lot of Hip albums the first day I got them, but they just grow on you. I'm really liking "Love and Trust" but it reminds me way too much of "State of Love and Trust" by Pearl Jam.

Does anyone know of an online source that shows the history of OLP's band members, i.e., the lineup they had for each album etc?

- The Darkest Canuck - 09-06-2005

for the first 4 albums they had: Raine - vocals, Mike - guitar, Duncan - bass, Jeremy - drums, and on two of the tracks on Spiritual Machines, Jack Irons from Pearl Jam did the drums, because Jeremy was recovering from a broken leg, one of those tracks is Right Behind You, i can't remember what the other one is.

"Jeremy broke his...broke his...Jeremy broke his..broke his...Jeremy broke his...leg today"

I know. That's really bad. But the song got stuck in my head.

teehee

So Mike Turner left the band after their 4th album?

Also, I was under the impression that there was a different bassist from the first album to the second album. I could swear there was some lineup change from Naveed to Clumsy. Obviously it was not the singer or the drummer, and if the guitarist didn't split until after the 4th record, that leaves the bassist. OR I am on crack.

- The Darkest Canuck - 09-06-2005

yup, you're on the crank for sure, because Duncan has been in the band longer than Raine...

- briansmccabe - 09-06-2005

longer than the singer? I thought the original 4 formed the band. Was there some other singer before him that was never recorded or something?
