I'm really not clear on how this woman can get off like this? Is there no life in prison in Canada? What she did was horrific. Also, wasn't there some dude that had a website going dedicated to hunting her down and killing her?

She cut a deal, that is why she never got life. There is life in prison in Canada although I am not sure what you have to do to actually get it.

I've heard of people getting around 6yrs in jail for killing an animal, she does all this http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/americas/ ... index.html

and gets 12 becasue of a deal that involved testifying against bernardo. Did they really need her testimony , wasnt the rape/torture video tapes enough to hang this bastard?

If I remember correctly, they didn't have those tapes when they cut a deal with her. Sad

I don't think too many people would shed a tear if Homolka somehow "disappeared" or had an "unfortunate accident". She certainly doesn't deserve any peace and doesn't deserve to be treated like an average citizen. I certainly don't have any good things to say about Quebec if the citizens there forgive her and treat her well. She should either be totally ignored or harassed; either is fine with me. I would prefer that people harass her and make her life miserable but that's probably too much to ask.

I personally think that something will happen to her. Someone will do something.

Anyone read the transcripts from her interview? She's actually still trying to play the battered wife syndrome card rather than take responsibility. Yeah, she's OK.

You have to do more or less what Karla did. Paul Bernardo will never be released from prison.

Difference is, Karla was able to cut a deal thanks to an incompetent police investigation, including a search that failed to find critical evidence.

I think it is also ironic that she has been fighting for a media ban, and then the first thing she does out of prison is walk into a tv studio. Confusedcratch: Great advice from her lawyer there.

I'd have to think they've given up on the whole media ban thing, considering they just trashed their credibility.

I caught the interview on Newsworld this morning, and I thought the exact same thing.

More craziness from the Homolka front, now Bernardo is claiming the whole thing was Karla's fault

TORONTO (CP) - An "agitated" Paul Bernardo continues to insist it was his intention to set Ontario schoolgirl Leslie Mahaffy free and that Karla Homolka hatched a murder plot on her own, CBC's The National reported Tuesday.

Bernardo spoke with Ontario Provincial Police on Friday before discussing his claim with his lawyer, Tony Bryant, that a panicked Homolka attempted to murder Mahaffy when the young girl's blindfold fell off, Bryant said in an interview with the CBC.

Bryant said his client wants people to know that it was his intention to set the rape victim free and that it was Homolka who panicked, despite her efforts to present herself as a submissive, battered woman acting on Bernardo's whims.

Bernardo, who insisted at his trial that Homolka choked Mahaffy and Kristen French to death, is barred from speaking publicly about the case.

Homolka was freed on Monday after serving a 12-year sentence for the Mahaffy and French killings. Bernardo is serving a life sentence.

"He wanted to get the message across that she actually tried to kill Leslie Mahaffy by means of an embolism, by injecting an air bubble into her bloodstream," Bryant said.

"Because she was afraid that because the blindfold had fallen off, that she (Mahaffy) would be able to recognize Paul (Bernardo) and presumably herself."

The claim by Bernardo has not been proven in court.

Homolka agreed to the 12-year sentence for her role in the rape, torture and death of French and Mahaffy, as well as that of her own 15-year-old sister Tammy.

In exchange, she testified against ex-husband Bernardo, who was convicted in 1995 on two counts of first-degree murder and later declared a dangerous offender -- a designation that keeps him behind bars indefinitely.

Bryant said Bernardo couldn't keep his silence anymore, as Homolka garners international media attention -- granting a one-on-one interview to tell her side of the story to CBC's French-language network on her first day of her freedom -- and attempts to slip into a quiet life of freedom.

"He became agitated maybe as a result of seeing all the media attention over the last several months," Bryant told CBC.

Neither police nor the Ontario's Crown Attorney's office would comment, CBC reported.

if you see her, please run her over.

I've lived in Thorold, St. Catharines' little brother, for most of my life. I remember the day Kristen French went missing. She was a friend of mine's babysitter. I also remember the day they found her body. What happened was absolutely tragic and both she and Bernardo deserve to be in prison for the rest of their lives. Bernardo will be.

I am breaking my own rule. Once. She wants to be in the limelight. She'll be in the papers and on the news for weeks. Don't give her (or the media) the satisfaction of exploiting such a treacherous thing that has happened. Skip the stories in the paper. When a bit comes on the TV about her, change the channel. Same deal as with Mark David Chapman - you Beatles fans will understand what I mean.

You mean you're not from Hazeldean? I'm disapointed!
