If the song is about Richard II, I'll eat my hat. I just made that shit up. On the other hand, Richard II is clearly not on TV anymore.
I always thought the song made an oblique reference to both Richard Nixon and Richard Dawson, and probably is about neither, as Gord intended.

Well, we all know how reliable Gord is about intro'ing songs. I've heard him say "Thugs" is about "rabid bunnies," but I'll toss that up on the site since it validates my insanity a lil' bit. Thanks.
I didn't mean to imply that because Gord said it, it must be true. I merely meant to point out that Gord himself has brought up both Nixon and Dawson.

The lines at the end of the Luxury could be a re-working of "If You Lived Here", as I remember hearing them as an outro to Wheat Kings on NYD 2000, followed by "If you lived here you'd be home by now / anyhow anyway"
