Dude, can you imagine how stressful it is to have $24 million in the bank? So stressful that you can "threaten" to retire when you don't like how CBA negotiations are going.
The rest of us - trying to get by on a very small percentage of what Trevor Linden makes - should be so lucky to know that kind of stress.

Again, his renumeration isn't what causes the stress, It may have something to do with the expectations of his team, his family, his fans, and of a million strangers, some of whom may even bad mouth him online.
Saying his job is easy, or that it wasn't a boat load of hard work that got him there, is ridiculous.
He wasn't whining, he was voicing. He's accused of whining becasue he's rich. He's rich because the business model is silly.

Anyone would put up with hecklers for millions of dollars. People could go online and call me the devil, I wouldn't care. Linden, as all other NHL'ers, has it good. There is stress to win, but it's not that important. It's a game. The Canucks, my team by the way, are perpetual chokers. I think Trevor Linden actually gets a free pass. He isn't nearly criticized for his play as much as he should be.
Anyway, Trevor was voicing his opinion. That's fine. My opinion after hearing what he said is "HEY TREV, DON'T LET THE DOOR HIT YOU ON THE WAY OUT". Who cares is he retires? I certainly don't care. He should have retired four years ago if people in the hockey media and GM's had the guts to tell him that. Being a nice guy sure gives some players a free pass when it comes to criticism.

Threatening to retire because Bettman wants to fix the "silly model" isn't whining? What is it exactly? How is it different from "this is my ball and I'm going home"?
I didn't say Trevor Linden was a bad guy. I didn't say he doesn't work hard. I said that it is tough for me to digest his "voicing" given how much money he's made relative to his production.
If you think his charity work and his hard work justifies his voicing, good for you. It's simply another point of view we are going to disagree on.
And lastly, I'd like you to find me one person who gladly wouldn't trade the stress from
expectations of his team, his family, his fans, and of a million strangers, some of whom may even bad mouth him online and $24 million in the bank for their stresses, which typically include expectations of his colleagues, his family, and the bank, and if he's lucky, a couple of thousand dollars in the bank in case of emergency.

Seriously, if there is anyone in the NHL who should be used to the stress to win but not delivering on it, its got to be Trevor Linden. I've actually got a new term. I've noticed that the amount of rhetoric a player has spewed during the lockout is inversely proportionate to their production relative to their pay (Linden, Holik, Guerin, etc etc etc). I'm now referring to it as The Linden Effect.

I call that the Curtis Joseph Effect.

Cool!
However, I looked into the Rules and Regulations of Issuing Tool Points and Rule 7b, subsection ix, point b clearly states:
Anyone in their sixth year of high school is forbidden from issuing tool points. Should a person in their sixth year of high school attempt to issue tool points said tool points will be counted towards their own tool point total.
Congratulations DC! In one simple post (note the double-entendre of my usage of the word
simple), you've increased your Tool Point total by over 3,000%!
Now, get back to your Hooked On Phonics lesson before your mom comes home and finds you wasting time on the computer again.

you made that up, and for trying to weasle your way out of getting those points, i'm doubling, wait, no, tripling your sentence to 3000 tool points. once you hit 5000, the province of Alberta gets custody of your little waste of sperm, so you better watch what you say.

Man why don't we arrange a boxing match for you two and just get it over with!
Anyway... it's getting tiresome to hear the players talk about this. I just heard a clip of Tie Domi's reaction, who apparently is with the Worldstars touring team... which leads to the obvious question, how the hell did Tie Domi get named to the Worldstars team?

cratch:

Because all the worthwhile players are in Europe!!
Worldstars? I heard that mentioned for the first time the other day. Geez is it me or is the number of leagues and pseudo-leagues getting hard to follow?
-
The Darkest Canuck - 12-16-2004
Worldstars is a tour, i'm guessing Domi's on it because Sundin is, i hope the Worldstars tour comes to North America.
