John Mellencamp is simple, heartfelt Americana.. I watched a little bit of the live special and was blown away by Jackie Brown and Scarecrow :thumb:

that's what i love about the guy..his stuff (ok..i'll admit rock in the usa is weak) sounds so fresh today..he's always trying to "change it up"..hell, he even worked with Chuck D. from public enemy a couple cd's back..

I met Crystal Taliefero once, many years ago. She said Mellencamp is pretty much "what you see is what you get." He's a down to earth nice guy who doesn't play the rock star role. I kinda got that vibe from him last night on the Live by Request thing.

Personally, I think Springsteen is a poor man's Mellencamp...

I really like Mellencamp. I think The Lonesome Jubilee is a wonderful album, as well as Scarecrow and Whenever We Wanted. Saw him in The Hague in '92 when he did the Whenever We Wanted tour....one of the best concerts i've ever witnessed

Picked up Words and music this weekend, great collection of songs. well worth it. Had it on all weekend, had guests over saturday and they all loved it too.

He was John Cougar Mellencamp when he first came out. I remember it well, my mother has the album on vinyl. Just another person who was in the soundtrack to my childhood.
Sometimes in the late 80's early 90's he became John Mellencamp.
I love him and I wish he still put out the really good stuff like his early stuff. The last good song he put in IMHO was "Wild Night". I really like his version too.
My favorite song of his is "Small Town". That song is close to my heart because it really reflects how I grew up.
