I will buy the Hip and U2 box sets, just to say I have them and hope they include lots of unreleased treats.

As for U2 selling out, it sure seems like it as of late. But before this album they were known for not being sell outs. They never accepted a company's offer to sponsor their tours when offers were there. They never sold their songs to companies for their commercials. On top of all this, their Zooropa and Pop Mart tours were all about making fun of corporate sell outs. So maybe they have finally fallen. Its sad to see.

After 20 years together if the hip can't put something together that will blow away there biggest fans there not trying. With what they have unreleased and live recordings it should be interesting. How about a complete disk of jams with a background of Gord ranting? A nice clean version where you can follow every psyco trip he goes on.

But if I had to put out a greatet hits, I wouldn't take the same studio versions off the various records. I'd use soundboard recordings from great shows instead. Then I'd throw in a couple of unreleased favorites like Get Back Again for good measure.

THAT would make it undisputably worth the fans' money.

I hear ya. I've often used my favorite Kids in the Hall quote when discussing this topic: "Greatest hits albums are for housewives and little girls."

And for the most part I agree. If I already own the band's entire catalogue, there's no point in getting the greatest hits. But because it's the Hip I know I'll end up buying it simply because I want to support them. I just hope they put some unreleased stuff on there.

Just curious though... although I agree with the other posts in this thread that all Hip songs are hits... because, of course, we're fans and we like all of their material... but how do you think they would decide what was a "hit"? I don't think the Hip have had a #1 hit on any of the charts (Much, Billboard, etc) I could be wrong about that though.... would it just be their more popular songs? ABAC, NOIS, etc?

I'd still buy it for the sake of having every Hip album...

I'm not sure if I'll buy it if it's just studio recorded version of songs I already have. I might but it's iffy. If the songs were live versions, then of course I would buy it. That doesn't sound like the Hip though, to release live versions of songs, not usually anyway. God forbid the Hip would release a DVD!!!!

I think the greatest hits would be obvious choices. The singles off of all of their albums maybe. All the songs they made vidoes for anyway. You know, all the songs most fans despise hearing live. Tongue

I would buy it if they did a DVD/CD combo, live versions of their favourites(though this seems unlikely) or some unreleased tracks/rarities. I think the DVD/CD combo makes the best sense cause it offers something for both the die hards and casual fans. A Greatest Hits album straight from the studio would not grab my attention.

I saw that skit for the first time a few months ago. I had been listening to "The Best of the Doors" between comercial breaks. I don't know what to make of that...

I wouldn't buy a Hip greatest hits if it just had a bunch of songs I already own. Not enough money from the CD sales go towards the band to consider it a "supporting the band" thing. If they used live recordings I'd buy it, it would be like a second LBU.

I think it would be really cool if the Hip did like Coldplay last year, they put out a cd of the best live songs from their 2003 tour and added a DVD of one of the shows from the tour and put it out as a double album. It was a great bargain for only $20 bucks, I would rather that than a "greatest hits" album. Just an idea :jump

Would I buy a Greatest Hits? Would I pay $15 for an album full of songs that I already own? Not a chance. Well, the artwork would have to be REALLY good.

Put one unreleased song on it... yeah, I probably would. And I'm not talking about the unreleased songs they released to The Hip Club w/ IVL.

Put two or more on it... I'd be waiting at the record store for them to open.
