Wow, I don't remember any of this happening. Haha. I can understand someone not wanting their kids to hear it. But come on, this was a huge amount of trouble for this guy to go to for such a small thing. What a bored, very sad man.

I have to confess I'm a little taken aback by all these posts.
People like this guy are a dime a dozen. They're all over the place. What people should be disturbed about is the broadcast standards council decision, which is devoid of logic.
Cranks are harmless unless abetted by fools in positions of authority.

I posted this to see which direction the discussion would take. I was surprised at the outcome. I was anticipating a discussion about broadcast standards, or a "Highway Girl - vindacated!" spin on it, as the song was not completely banned from air-play.
I would find it frustrating focusing on one's opinions and way of life, knowing that change was not possible.

It's amazing how some people take the "I'm a taxpayer" idea and run with it like the entire world has to jump whenever they do. Now I can see how a guy might not want a song like that on the radio in the middle of the day (of course I live in the middle of the Bible Belt), but the fact that he would petition and bitch and moan like this seems excessive. If I heard a song that offended me on the radio once, I would change the station. If I heard it all the time, I just wouldn't listen to the station at all. It's not my business what other people want to listen to.

*LONG DISAGREEMENT ALERT*
As much as I love the Hip, I agree with this guy.
The world is on a steady nose-dive into filth. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm a porn-addict. I love bloodshed on movies and games. I'm the biggest junkie in this half of Canada but, come on.
Basic cable is getting more and more inhibition-less. I remember being like 11 and the chances of catching something on TV even slightly-arousing was next to impossible. Now it's all over the place.
Girls are dressing like whores at earlier and earlier ages. People are showing more and more skin on TV and in public. Rap is taking the airwaves; guns, drugs and money. Who said rap had to be about only three things? Video games are getting more sophisticated (and there's only so many storylines for video games).
We are animals.
We are sexual, warrior, blood-thirsty slime.
Sex sells. Violence sells.
Welcome fiends, to the age of vulgarity.
For years we have been separating ourselves from the animals. We invented clothing and tools and virtues and sins and definitions like "good" and "bad".
It used to taboo to talk about sex on TV and now there are tons of shows dedicated to it. They (TV producers or something) will always push the envelope to deliver something unseen or unheard of and eventually there will be nothing left.
By letting something slip through the net we just make the hole bigger for the next fish to want to wiggle through and then pretty soon we'll just say "screw the net."
As for Marilyn Manson, besides being creepy and visually-deranged, name one "bad" thing the dude has ever done. As far as I can see, he's just using one of the last available images for an artist there is. The creepy, sickening, monster look.
The guy speaks out against tradition and conventional ideas and bashes the dominating religion and gets a bad rep. I believe in his concept of questioning our beliefs and routines and I believe changes need to be made. But only changes that would make the human race better not worse.
Whew. I need a smoke now...

Remember staying up late at night and finding "scrambled" porn on channel 124? All you could hear was warbled audio and if you watched for an hour you might catch a flash of something risque...
But then there's Showcase. As much as I love some of what they show - things that are tasteful but no other network could air, like Fargo or the Birdcage - I HATE what they're doing to the TV landscape. Their ads and show promos truly offend me. There's Show Me Yours, Naked Josh, Married Man, etc, etc, etc...shows with sexual humour at their core. And there's SO FREAKIN' MANY of these shows! There must be a dozen of them, in addition to the old Red Shoe Diaries and stuff like that. It's like Showcase thinks "if we base it around sex, people will watch no matter ow bad it is. I have watched most of these shows exactly once and I couldn't stomach watching them again. Show Me Yours is basically two people writing a sex book who interview people and insult each other...it's AWFUL. And all because a horny suit somewhere decided the entire human reace wanted as much trashy smut as he did.
It's easy to bash the sex-laden talk shows, the drug and violence-obsessed news organisations, et cetera. But to me, the channels like Showcase and TQS that simply can't restrain their loins offend me much more.

Glad to see some people standing up for some level of decency in the mass media. If what the public responds to is shock value, where does it stop? Grooveless talked about watching scrambled porn to find it arousing. Would anyone here find that arousing now? NO! Because we are now used to so much more being thrown at us through the media. Where does it stop? It doesn't. That's the problem.

You guys should be working for the CBSC.
All you need to do now, Brazle, is to somehow make a connection between the perceived general downward slide of morals and the specifics of this guy's complaint to the CBSC. Sorry, but the slippery-slope argument doesn't animate your little straw man.
I'm not sure sure I want to live in a place where the pragmatic duty of art is the betterment of humanity.
