also, they better step in the 21 century and offer looseless downloads (ie: SHN or FLAC16)

Right on Mark! Check out http://www.primuslive.com. The offer MP3 for $9.95 and FLAC fo $12.95. There is even unique downloadable CD art. Sounds pretty fair to me. :thumb:

Wow. This is huge, and exciting.

It's a start, no matter which format they do or do not use. I am sure there will be some growing pains initially, but the payoff for us fans is huge. And can be a little payoff ($$$) for the Hip too. And I say good for them.

I am also wondering if in the future, and I know this has been mentioned before on this site, if they may release some of their older shows that they have recorded in years gone by. I know I have read articles with the boys saying they usually record the shows themselves, which would mean somewhere in the Hip vault they would have a cache great shows that none of us booters here have. I'll keep my fingers crossed!!!

And you know the Hip being the Hip, the cost will be reasonable. Just have to pay down that darn credit card now.

Thank you Hip...thank you very much!!!

That'z alwayz been my contention as well, like look at all the yummy footage on Heksenketal, they must have at least 1 full concert from those gigz, they just gotta. let's see, they got footage from Thunder Bay, Victoria, Montreal.... Trust me, there is a vault, and it is full :jump I guess itz just a matter of them deciding what they wanna spread to the massez, did I hear somewhere on this forum I think that someone at those 9:30 club gigz in 96, saw some professional video gear set up?

Metallica is doing the same thing for their tour (www.livemetallica.com) I have bought 6 of the FLAC format shows since March (2 of which I was at) and the sound on them is excellent.

i also got the metallica show in edmonton...its the prize souvenir if you attend the show and the downloadable case inserts are a nice touch

At The Dead show the other night, right after the show they had it on CD for sale for $15.
Instant live or something like that.
I wonder if The Hip will also go that route, and then also offer the downloads?

I think if they did do this, they would have to offer it for download also for some price because I think, if they didn't, the shows would immediately hit the circuits and everybody would be getting them for free. If they tapped this resource, whipping up some form of cover or something to give the fan the incentive to purchase it, then they would make alot more money than just selling them at the shows. Not all fans can get to the shows due to distance or lack of money  or whatever. They'd make alot more money if they offered it for download. Think of it on an international scale....

I hate to do this to this group but>>>>>

I TOLD YA SO!!!!!

check any of my prior post (albeit limited) on these treads...
I even just posted this same suggestion on the "americian" topic thread..

Official live boots will be the key to the Hip's future...

and as the other person posted...
any "unplucked gems CD or DVD wise from past greatr shows would be awesome!!!!!!!

Pedro the Lion (check 'em out if you don't recognize the name) released an album at the beginning of the summer and inside the album was a login (like the Hip Club card). After every show he did when touring for the album, he recorded the set and posted it as mp3s on his website. You had to have a login (and thus have purchased his album) to get them and they were only available for 24 hours. I thought this was a pretty cool (and cheaper) way of doing what PJ did with their 3000 live albums.

The pixies did the same thing. They sold their shows as soon as it was finished only they capped it at 1500 per show. They sold like hot cakes and sound awesome. I have the Regina and S'toon shows. They came with a nice cover and had the number of the boot, ie 425/1500. Nice touch.

A huge thanks to the Hip for settin us up with these. Now I only have to bring video equipment to the shows.

Did they not record any of the July shows, then? I was at the ottawa show and would love a copy of it....

- PurposelessPlay - 09-02-2004

So we are now 2 weeks from the start of the tour. Is it too early to be expecting more information on what their plans are? Assuming (and hoping) they still have plans for this?

- grooveless touque - 09-02-2004

If there is a cap on purchases...sya they only make 1,000 copies or what have you...would they still be offered up on THM? If they offered unlimited online downloads, everybody could get them, but if there was a cap most likely only the people at the show that night would get a crack at it.

I saw the Hip in Vancouver back in '96 on the Henhouse tour. I got to spend a few days with the road crew thanks to a friend of mine. Anyhow, there were two interesting things that came out of those late night drinking/smoking sessions:

1) As the Hip have mentioned several times, they definately have recorded all of their shows over the years. In fact, one of the roadies said that before the Henhouse tour started he was in their studio in Bath and he listened to the soundboard recording of Fight w/ John Popper that was played on the '95 ARA tour. He said the quality was A++ and he had it blasting through 8 speakers. *Sigh*

2) Even back then the crew was bitching and complaining that the band wasn't changing up the sets enough and weren't playing enough songs off of UTH and RA. So I guess some things never change, you can never make everyone happy. And BTW, they were playing Everytime & Opiated back then too!!
