You'd think you were Stephen Harper or something.

He was anything but desperate last night. Expect him to come out blazing tonight as well. Paul's being called "reborn" all over the Conservative Bell GlobeMedia properties today... Harper will be ready too... this should be good.
And just as a P.S. It's 1:50pm here in Ottawa, a full six hours until debate time, and there are already groups of Liberal and Conservative supporters screaming at each other outside the NAC. It's like fight night atmosphere around here right now.
I hope Harper is left staring at the lights.
Not exactly sure why you quoted me...
I just thought sherpahigh's comment was hilarious... which it was.

Why wasn't the Green Party invited to the debate? 11 years the Liberals have had. How much more time do they need to support our military troops with gear and equipment to fight the wars that their own country is asking them to par-take in? How is so much money squandered under the nose of the minister of finance(which by the way is now the prime minister)? Why are disability, welfare, social assistance, AND MY TAXES, increasing. We live in one of the highest taxed countries in the world, yet our standard of living cannot be compared to certain tiny Carribean islands. Not sure who I'll vote for, but the Liberals have used my vote for 3 terms...it's somebody else's turn. Dickheads.

Listen up, dickhead! The Greens weren't allowed into the debate because the broadcast consortium (TVA, SRC, CBC, CTV, Global) ruled that a party must have a seat in Parliament to participate. The Reform party was used as a precident: they weren't allowed in until they won a bi-election in 1988.
I think Jack Layton won the debate, with Harper a close second with Gilles Duceppe looking cool, confident and under control the whole time. Paul Martin from the French debate last night did not show up.
Stand out moment: (And the moment that signalled the end for Martin IMO) Martin: (With Layton speaking over him) "Do your handlers tell you to just talk as much as you can...." AND THEN SILENCE. It was a horrible joke, Martin looked weak and childish with a silly grin on his face, setting up a fantastic "This is no laughing matter, sir" moment for Jack.
Funniest moment: After Harper said he'd reinvest in amateur sport, Layton quipped: "Great, you'll bring back Participaction. That'll be fun." Sarcastic and generally unimportant I know, but we laughed. (Even my conservative friend.
Harper's homerun: "Paul Martin has spent ten years creating these problems and now he wants to spend ten years fixing them." Ouch. That was a great line.
And the unintentionally funny moment of the night: Gilles Duceppe, obviously unaware of his English flub: "We'll do it irresponsibly like we always have." Prolly meant "responsibly"
It's gunna be a close one folks... get out there and be heard on the 28th. Hey, It'll give ya something to do in those last LONG hours before the release of IBE.

As fir the Green Party absence...SRC and CBC are crown corporations. The other stations probably just picked up the feed. Strange, the government can decide who is seen by the public?! I'm not voting Green Party, but I'm sure the Liberals figured it's be a lost vote if someone was to vote Green.
Vote Blue..it's true...and the crew...and you and you and you.

It's pool coverage actually. Equally financed by CanWest, Quebecor, CBC and Bell Globe Media.
Liberals had nothing to do with the decision.

Hey cool. Seriously, when you registered to vote in advance did they give you a location or a website? I've heard some ridings are experimenting with e-voting for you lucky bastards who'll be on vacation on the 28th!

Seems to me that the CBC has not been privatized. If they were, Don Cherry wouldn't be in all this trouble. Quebecor had been named in the sponsorship scandal along with many other Liberal affiliate companies. Anyways, they're all crooks in the long wrong. My problem is that the Green Party (who I won't be voting for), are not allowed to be represented. How does anyone justify that? That party will probably get 6-7% of Canadians votes, but are not invited to the debate.
Not to be critical Stephen, but give me a reason to vote Liberal. Tell me (other than the brief stint wil legalized marijuana) what have the Liberals done well over the past 11 years? What have they done for me to say "Damn, I want to pay them 40% of my wages for the next 4 years"? I'm not being sarcastic, but I really can't think of any reason that this country should not go in a different direction.

Actually, up until June 23rd, you can walk into your local returning office and vote ANYTIME...you just have to know the name of the candidate in your riding you're voting for (not a problem where I am... )...

If you really believe that they're all crooks in the long run, then start or support a party you can believe in. Removing yourself from the process won't help anybody. Hell, write in a vote for Gord Downie if you want to, but protest in a way you'll be heard.
And remember, The Canadian Action Party, The Marijuana Party, The Marxists Leninist Party and The Communist Party were all denied access for the same reason mentioned above. The Greens just did the best job complaining about it.

Well, I'm not voting Liberal, so no idea why you're asking me, but I'll give you three anyway. I could give you 3 for any of the others if you ask. So, rather than an endorsement, here's an answer to your question. However, I think your mind is already made up, and I don't think you'd disagree...
1) There are 42 billion reasons to never elect another Conservative government again. Paul Martin killed the deficit. He did it on the backs of transfer payments, but it was something that HAD to be done, and something Brian Mulroney and Kim Campbell didn't think could be done for seven years. He did it in two. We're talking third world status, WTO or US bail out if it didn't happen. This IS an accomplishment.
2) It's one thing to talk about a tolerant, diverse society, and another thing to back it up with legislation. If our diversity and acceptance and protection of minority rights becomes just another rhetorical ploy, I think Canada as we know it loses something. There is no such thing as "seperate but equal." For Homosexuals, Women, Visible Minorities, equal rights are not something to be decided by Parliament... they are rights and need to be defended on principle. On a personal note, I could tell you Horror stories,
horror stories about average everyday Conservatve supporters who've confronted me at various events and gatherings on Parliament Hill and told me, both in my personal "apperances" and professional ones, that because I support "Faggots" I'm doomed to hell. I know the whole party doesn't think that way, but far too many of their supporters do for my liking. I think you can reasonably understand how that could colour my perception against the Alliance...
And 3) I've met Stephen Harper's wife, she's very shy and demure and MUCH better looking than Ms. Martin. So c'mon, cut Paul a break would ya... oh, and the Child Tax Benefit, another very real, very good accomplishment.
Basically, I can understand why you would have trouble thinking the Liberals deserve another chance. Instead of running on their record, they're running scared. It's a disaster of a campaign. Chretien would have wiped the floor with all of us... and again, if the circus ensues... Their may be another JC ready to come back...

Good answer. Perhaps Paul should've had you at his rehearsals last weekend.
You can't compare the extremists that you saw at parliament hill to anyone. I can't think of one of my friends, customers, relatives, neighbours, that walk around in a KKK uniform just because they want different leadership. That's an extremist view that they have.

Didn't finish my last response. I think I hit enter by accident. Anyways, did anyone notice how the NDP was kinda stealing the Green Party's message last night? All the talk about environmental issues, fixing problems before they start, etc, etc. They would be dead last on my list. And the Bloc, the Bloc is only on the Quebec ballats...why were they invited to the debate? I'm glad I don't think about this every day, i think I'd rip all of my hair out.
