Agreed!

A few weeks ago I was thinking about when MAW leaked; most people could not have cared less but a.m.th was very worked up about the whole thing. Should you download or not? Even though pretty much everyone was headed to the music store on Tuesday anyway, there was still lots of discussion.

Weird that none of the Canadian retailers have it listed.

Re: Dougie Stardust? - ceebuler - 03-05-2016

So far, this mystery album only seems to exist in vinyl and will retail for around $40.00. I'd be surprised if this is a traditional release. Maybe some sort of collectable.

Re: Dougie Stardust? - tkkarpen - 03-05-2016

So, did anyone pre-order? $40 for a complete unknown seems... steep.

Maybe like Wilco or Foo Fighters? Free download but you can order on vinyl if you wish? Or maybe they just haven't switched on the cd pages yet.

It would really suck if this was a vinyl-only release, and then we're forced to wait another month or so for the CD and digital versions. I buy vinyl once in a while, but it's really f'n expensive and I don't currently own a turntable. If they're actually releasing this on Friday, my guess is it'll be a surprise Wilco/U2 style release. Free download (or maybe a "pay what you want" system, a-la Radiohead), vinyl, and CD. As Shane said, they probably just haven't switched on the CD/digital pages yet. The old model of record releases is pretty obsolete these days, and more artists are starting to try the surprise album drop. If this is really happening next week, it's cool seeing the Hip finally dip their toes into the world of modern music distribution. Something tells me that Kevin Drew may have had a hand in influencing the band's decision with this.

M@W leaked in March and was physically released in June.
Got my leaked copy by getting in the bands sketchy smokey van in the parking lot during a set break while watching a Hip cover band.

I couldn't remember how much time was between the leak and release. Knew it was a few weeks but couldn't remember the actual timeline.

I have not been this surprised by Hip news in a long, long time!

I'm a bit too blindsided to feel optimistic. Not digging the title or lack of information. Why must you toy with my feelings, internet?

I agree, the title is awful. That being said, I thought Music@Work was a terrible title as well, and that record turned out to be pretty good. So ya never know.

Please expand on this. I am a gigantic BSS fan with some connection to those guys, and to my knowledge K Drew has never released anything without notice and advance planning.

I am extremely curious what made you say this.

Just a guess, that's all. I figured a guy like him would be up to speed on the latest happenings/trends in music seeing as he's indie-rock royalty and all. Surprise album releases seem to be the cool new thing to do these days, and lots of bands are trying it. The Hip have always been late to the table when it comes to stuff like that, and perhaps someone like Drew may have suggested it to them. Like I said, just a guess.
