Kingston has an excellent choice of outdoor and indoor venues to chosse from, and if managed and promoted properly could be an ongoing source of revenue and sustained publicity for music and arts.

I really like the idea of an outdoor concert, and getting charities involved might just put it to the top of Kingston's best ideas to honour the Hip list. I do think it would be best coupled with something more permanent; something that will forever be a part of Kingston.

A book is a great idea as well, I'd definitely purchase it. But it doesn't seem like a project the City of Kingston should take on. I think a book would be better off as a separate project.

I think it would idelly be an annual event - something similar to Guelph's Hillside Festival which includes not only music, but arts in general. The intent would not be for the Hip to play it every year, but rather to honour their contribution to Canadian music and arts. A significant charity component would also recognize the Hip's longtime commitment to various charities.

Thanks for this reminder. I kept meaning to pick this book up years ago when it was published, but never did. I bought it the other night and can't put it down! Dare I say, Bidini rivals Downie in terms of writing. Confusedhock: They both differ in their writing in various ways, but Bidini's stories are fantastic.

It's a fantastic book. The anecdotes from other artists are highly entertaining as well. If you like this, you should also read Bidini's Around the World in 57 1/2 Gigs. It's about him touring the world solo after the Rheostatics broke up, and travelling to obscure places around the globe he'd always wanted to play like China, Finland, and Africa.
