Nice! I had no idea he had another album in the works. I'm officially excited.

I have listened to two new albums this year, of which I have completely different opinions. First, the new Destroyer which I found completely disappointing. Next, the new DBT which I'm absolutely loving so far... definitely better than the Big To-Do.

The Big To-Do was one of my favorite albums of the year, but I totally agree with you. The new album is amazing. I've only been listening to it for a couple of days, but I'd say it's the best thing they've done since The Dirty South. Used To Be a Cop, The Thanksgiving Filter, Mercy Buckets, and the title track are the highlights for me so far. With these last two records they've once again become a three-headed songwriting monster. Hood and Cooley provide their usual brilliance, but the two Shonna Tucker songs on this album are excellent as well.

And before the Internet police jump all over me, I've already pre-ordered a copy of the official album from the band's website. Their packaging and artwork is always really cool, and I love Patterson Hood's liner notes/essays that he puts in every CD booklet.

Just took a listen to it, seems more country than I was expecting so far. I like the slowed down version of "Used to be a Cop" from the Youtube clip they released more I think, and the Shonna does have a very timeless voice.

Last I heard they were going to start making the record sometime in the beginning of the year.

Me too. It is pretty mellow. It is good. Can't compare it to the Dirty South it is a different monster entirely. Stands on its own as a great album though.

she's a huge talent

The webisodes on their website are really nice too. Mercy Buckets was one called buckets of Mercy and Patterson did it at his solo shows and there's a great video on youtube of him performing it at a friends wedding

Not sure how many folks here are into her, but Fiona Apple is finally releasing a new album this spring. Her first since 2005's Extraordinary Machine. Talk about a notoriously slow songwriter. And I thought the Weakerthans took a long time between albums.

The new Buck 65 album "20 Odd Years" (featuring Mr. Downie) comes out this Tuesday.

Really? I'm kind of excited to hear what new songs she has come up with. Extraordinary Machine was brilliant. I've enjoyed some of the covers Fiona has done, too. The songs she did on the Cy Coleman tribute album were wickedly done.

Why haven't I given the DBT a proper listen before????? I decided to seek out some of their music online and I like what I'm hearing.

Re: New Albums for 2011 - Graham - 01-18-2011

Matthew Good.

"Lights of Endangered Species" is going to blow minds. Matt has completely abandoned conventional wisdom and dropped all old habits to make an album that is purposely out of the box. Horns. Strings. Woodwinds. Lots of piano. Not gonna be anything like it.
