Critics are good but when you're NOTHING BUT, then I have a hard time understanding why you'd ever frequent a fan forum.

No Matti it is called accountability. This is one of the greatest rock bands in the world. Some of us simply want to see a setlist that isnt all about the greatest hits. As a FAN of their music, I have a right to voice an opinion, as do others. If you want to hear BLOW another 50 fuckin times then knock yourself out. I don't. I remember how great the other tunes sounded from that album hearing them live. I dont think it is outrageous to want to hear them again. I have spent alot of money following the band (yes my choice) but, I think any musician has a duty to try and please everyone as best they can. There have been some decent setlists on this tour. My original point was refering to the 2000 tour when they played something like 30 songs with an intermission, thinking maybe there would be even more of a chance to cover rarities. Is it really that much to expect? We would pay more wouldnt we? The great thing about the Hip is that if you see them enough you are bound to catch a show that has a great setlist. My opinion is that they have some material on the shelf that kicks the ass out of some of their typical standards. Fair enough? I understood what the guy was saying about New Orleans, and I know there are others who wouldnt mind hearing something else.

As soon as the new leg was announced, I speculated/worried that since it wasn't multiple nights in one city, there was a chance to see some set list repitition because there would be no real incentive to mix it up. I'm still hoping I am wrong, but when I made that thread I had a decent number of people disagree. Now that is sort of happening, more people are starting to make noise.

probably not a fair comparison but Phish haven't played together in 5 years - got back together for their first shows in March - have played 28 dates so far and have played 174 different songs.

(As the thread originator,) I may have oversold my disappointment. I know that I should not expect ANY specific song at any particular concert, it's just after starting the tour off with such a bang, I'll be a little let down when the setlist becomes regular, and its been so long since i have heard some of these songs (if ever).
After 40 shows I have only heard "Inch an Hour" once. Still never had "Thugs," or "The Bear." "Tiger the Lion" has been at a few of my shows, but it would be a nice return. Somehow I don't see it coming.

But wouldnt it be great to hear Sharks or She Didn't Know or Bring it Back, etc. They have some rockin tunes that are considered B-sides that any other band would love to play live. Would any of the diehards complain if they specifically did a show that would be considered alternative? I'm thinking alot of their loyal fanbase would be refreshed by that approach, and might even spend a few more bucks traveling to shows. I know that I've missed some festival shows strictly because I feel pretty confident that it is going to be a Greatest Hits package. I think there may have been some other fans out there that have made similar choices?

NOIS to the casual fan is the Enter Sandman for Metallica.....the Killing in the Name for Rage......the...etc...etc
Hey...I like Spaghetti and meatballs....hell, I love it.
But once in awhile it's nice to have some fettuchini in the mix.
Guess I just OD'd on the Spaghetti for the first dozen years of being a fan.
I am betting most here would choose Twist my Arm over NOIS

Regarding setlists, overplayed popular songs for casual fans, and deep cuts (some very deep) for the diehards, I give you:
Exhibit A: Bruce Springsteen & the ESB
At the beginning of a tour for the album they are supporting, you'll almost always get the same news songs in the same slots (this tour it's Outlaw Pete and Working On A Dream, last tour it was Radio Nowhere, Livin' In The Future, Last To Die and Long Walk Home - plus others that get dropped as the tour progresses). You'll also get Born To Run, Badlands, and American Land every night. He will rotate a bunch of other popular songs from night to night, too. But you also get 3-4 songs that are listed "?" on the written setlist which are for audience requests. He also audibles 3-8 songs. Plus there are deep cuts written on the setlist, too. They play for around 3 hours straight, which is roughly 28-30 songs.
Exhibit B: Pearl Jam
You get Even Flow, Alive, and Yellow Ledbetter every night, plus a couple tracks from the album they are supporting (so far pre-release Backspacer, it's been The Fixer and Got Some). You get a bunch of popular songs that are played a lot but not every show - Better Man, Daughter, Do The Evolution, Small Town, Corduroy to name some). You get deep cuts off the album being toured, plus loads of mid to deep cuts from every album. They play for 2.5-3 hours, which is roughly 26-31 songs.

I would love to see Sharks, and Emperor Penguin, and Fight etc.
But I also enjoy New Orleans Is Sinking.
